P.S. I think a V4 would be enough Stink. I gotta go with Seacrets on that too. A yamaha 130 would look good on that bracket. ;)

A light 150 hp will weigh approx. 375 lbs. I just installed a newer (2000) 150 on my V20 and it weighs 407 lbs. I would really be concerned with no flotation in the bracket. I think you'll really squat the stern. Just a thought.

Seacrets...you mean with a 150 on it or a bracket at all.

I seen this same boat (above picture) in the water a little later in the day and it ran beautifully. Im not worried about it not working, or squating it "too much" I know itll work because it worked for him.

These 18s are really stout lil boat to be what they are. :)


Maybe put some two part foam in the bracket? How would I do that? After I bolt it all up?

Then I would have to dig it out for a motor swap down the road..right?

I seen it coming in the harbor later that day and actually towed him in as he broke down about 200yards from the dock. *::)

True be it I was out in a chop in the boat so i dont know the detail of how it handles at sea, but judging from mine I cant see where its gonna hurt me that much.

2006 models Johnson

V4=335lbs
V6=391


I cant help but feel a good V4 compared to what i have will be plenty of motor, but the weight difference between a 4 and 6 is nothing. I have taken dumps that weight more than that.

I know these are newer (maybe lighter) motors, but my plan is to repower with a 99ish or later outboard anyway or a completely rebuilt early-mid 90s *model.

A shop here in Mobile will build me an ALL NEW V4 for around 2100 r a V6 for around 25. (they supply motor) I have had work done there before and they are great people. Also, my buddy just *bought a 150 V6 built by them for his ski boat and loves it. They did all new internal and electronic parts and repainted it as well. They stand by their work and warranty too.


I think thats a pretty good price for a "new" motor with a warranty. ?


onward....I have both batteries in the back port hatch and I keep my shrimp trawl in the starboard one so that adds some poundage too.

I am thinking about moving the batteries to under the console? Thatll ditch at least 100lbs and the ice chest up front will make a BIG difference as I have had it there before and loved it.


How much does a stainless bracket with platform weigh?

I know it weighs enough that I dont like moving it around. *::)

Pick up a trading post you will often find deals on yamahas and newer evinrudes in the local area. Most of the time without controls. But budget boats has almost everything that you will need. If I bought the boat I would have put my 70hp evinrude on it and called it a day. I 70hp outboard will give you over 20mph everyday. *If you buy an outboard that is too old parts will be hard to find. You don't want to be stuck with another pile of junk.

Stay away johnson and evinrude with the eletric shift.

Last year I found a 1993 85hp yamaha for $400 with everything included only used in freshwaster on a pontoon boat.

I was thinking Kajun had a V20, but I guess its an 18? In that case the older johnson V4 115 should be fine. ;D Sorry.

Stink, what I was trying to say, when you move 350-400 lbs. 16-20" further back your boat would sit lower in the water. Don't forget the weight of the bracket itself. Did the bracket boat have scuppers? You mentioned your scuppers were almost in the water. With a bracket w/o flotation to compensate for the weight located further to the rear I would think, they'll be underwater. When you were adding your weight to your motor, you and your motor were on the transom, not behind the transom. These are just my thoughts. About a year ago, I looked at an 18 bracket w/o a motor installed. I called Wellcraft and they advised against it. Their first question was, "How far is the setback"? I like the 18's as much as the 20's and I like the bracket idea for both models. If anybody on this forum can make it work it would be you. Good luck.
