This is what it looks like with the sending unit magnetic part attached.....

After removing the magnetic part of the sending unit...

It is just a bowl looking area that the magnetic part sits in. When it gets dirty it does not make good contact and will read incorrectly..

MC, NO WONDER YOU'RE A GOD, MY GAS GAUGE HAS NOT WORKED FOR THE LAST 20 YRS. i JUNT FILL THE TANK EVERYTIME WHEN I RETURN, THAT WAY I AVOID HUMIDITY IN THE GAS AND ANY WORRIES WHEN I GO OUT.

Thanks for the pictures Rabbitfish. That looks like my tank and setup. I will hold off buying a new sender until I pull and check the old one. Thanks a million. :clap:

Take a look at the link I put up for the sender with no moving parts to foul up, it's at the beginning of the thread....
