Wohhh. Sticker shock!

Actually looking for a used one. The guys at Stainless Marine are local and make a heck of a platform, but hopefully in the next month or so I run across a decent priced used unit.

Speaking of Stainless Marine being local...and beer...sometimes a factory reject is only cosmetic...you might take some cold beer, make a friend at the factory and tell him to be on the lookout for a deal...

Got the bracket!

Found a local witha an excellent bracket for a good price.

Will need to shim it much like macojoe did, but seems simple enough. Will need to do some reading on calculating the correct position on the transom for the bracket.

Love it ! I may build one some day, My next venture ? Learn how to weld first ..
What is it made of ?

joe7670 07-27-2009 10:09 PM

Aluminum. I believe MacoJoe has pics in the gallery of one he made of steel but then bought an aluminum one.

Don't know that i'd undertake learning to weld aluminum as I hear it's an art. Better off finding used.

New they seem to run 1300-2000. Managed to get this used for $600.

Powder coat is excellent. Can't wait to see it mounted.

You can mig weld aluminum.

Here is a picture of a show host with a little welding training,
but the settings are from the guy who does the job every day.
It is the front bumper weld on the Corvette Z06 (we make this in one of our plants)
This is a screen dump from teh show called "Ultimate Factories"

We mig smaller connections, but the longer connections are laser welded.
