Look at this one for $425K. That would be over 1 million on any other lake even though it is a 2 bdrm cottage.

I am torn on coast or hill country lake type thing. Whatever I do it will be a lot less expensive than that, the plan would be to by an initial property, small now, something inexpensive where I can stay and establish a residence and later when we finally do sell the house in the peoples republic buy something a little more elaborate either there our somewhere else, using this property as a second home.

Well, seeing as NC is THE BEST place to live in the WORLD, our realestate prices are through the roof. Don't even try coming down here to Wilmington and expect to spend less 500k for something 1 mile inland. JK it's not all that expensive, but I would agree about looking around Morehead area. Maybe even New Bern area. It's up the river a way, it all opens into big water. It might not be as big a town as you're wanting, but it's a beautiful place.

Ngative ghost rider THE BEST is LA (Lower Alabama) :bat:

I am not even going to try to convince anyone that Central Indiana is the place to be. Flat, no water, lots of corn and soybeans. Definitely not a boater's paradise!

All right Stink Man, LA is definetly a sweet destination but I am going to NC. So if you please I need some info and advise from Carolina boys. Could save me a lot of running around and aggravation.

Willy, N.C. is a great choise. Northwest of the Outer Banks is Elizabeth City and east to Currituck and all areas around the Albemarle sound. Then south is Kittyhawk, Nags Head, Manteo (my daughter lives there) , Pea Island down to Hatteras and over to my personal favorite spot in the whole world, Ocracoke! Then you have Beaufort (another favorite), Emerald Isle, Alantic Beach, Morehead City and the list goes on and on! ALL are beautiful places on or surrounded by water, fresh or salt, and prices are down a bit now. Check us out ,we'd be glad ta have ya bro, come on down!

Thanks CFelton why is Ocracoke your favorite place in the world, and do you guys along the shore get hammered with insurance's like florida does near the water?
Also is there any high ground areas along your coastline? |
