I've fished in a 21 with the 470 MerCruiser, it runs well. The only complaints I've heard on the 470 were the heat exchanger is too small one it has the slightest amount of fouling and the alternator is integral and mounted on the crankshaft. Otherwise it was a good engine from what I've seen. MerCruiser named it for 4 Cylinders and 170 HP. They did the same play on numbers with the MerCrusier 888 which was 8 cylinders and 188 horsepower (8 cyl, 302 cid, 188 hp). |
