Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild

NO loss Hammer....scuff the heck out of what you layed up yesterday, smear a mess of resin on there and go at it ;D You'll have a good bond, then glass it all in when done. It's not gonna come out of there in your lifetime ;D

Look at it like this....your making a 1.5" sheet of ply....and I gaurantee that the west epoxy bonds better than whatever glue they use to make the ply.... ;)

right on Air except you don't need a layer of cloth between the outer skin and the wood. best is to do as i did for my Sea Ox i called boat manufactors asking where they buy their transom wood cause todays boats are built with 1 layer of ply wood that's 2 in thick. i bought a 40 layer 2" thick 5 x 10 sheet from a place in Greensboro NC for $98 and cut my own transom. this is where Parker and Grady buy their transoms. Itis kill dried treated. If you can buy treated that was killed afterwards it is best but higher.

oh and yeah Air the slower your resin sets up the better.

Hammer don't glue the camera to your hand or transom lol

Cloth, no cloth, cloth, no cloth. AHHHHH :-X :-X :-X
Well I sanded down the inner wood today as you guys suggested and went to town. I did wet down two scrap pieces of wood last night and they were bonded for life. Made me wonder if I realy needed cloth or not between the wood. Well I went ahead and added in a shet of cloth. With the cooler temps, it seemed that I had some longer working time. Smoking crack still helped though. :-X and I worked quick.
