Lee, I don't know about the electric brakes, but all I've heard was negative. I looked on ebay and found Kodiak SCAD brake kits from Custom Hitch &Trailer in Naples, Fl. The one axle kit was 200 bucks which included rotors, calipers, mounting brackets and bolts, wheel brgs and seals and good instructions. They were really easy to install, using the same holes as the old backing plate. Also ordered a reverse solenoid that mounts inline behind the acuator for 30 bucks and ran a wire from my reverse light circuit. I got a new Titan acuator from Portsmouth trailer service for 120 dollars and went to the local Napa for brake lines. The system works GREAT!! I havent had to touch it since installing it. Money well spent IMO.

What is the reverse solenoid for?

    Thanks lee

Hey Geekie1, Yes I installed Kodiak SCAD disc brakes on the front axle of a Escort boat trailer I bought out from under a 26 ft boat. I modified and shortened it to fit my 77 V. Its really heavy duty and I pull it with a toyota tacoma. I had a hard time stopping it before adding brakes to the trailer. Now I can stop faster with the boat than without! I havent had any trouble at all with them since installation. I'd recomend them over drum brakes anyday, makes pulling it a breeze!!!

Hi cfelton, I have been reading that you installed Kodiak disk brakes on your trailer. My impression was that you have a tandom trailer and you installed the new disks on your front axle only. My question is:

How has the brake conversion been working? Is having disk brakes on one axle been a problem?

I am considering converting my drum brakes to disks this winter.
