Well, the wind stopped howling on Tuesday, so Jodi and I headed 25 miles out to the Betsy Ross. Jodi caught some bottom fish and one keeper trigger fish that's supposed to be really good eating.

The 2 cobia are mine caught with light tackle on a Spro bucktail jig. They didn't like the live menhaden or mullet we threw at em but they did go for a painted lead head worked juuuuust right. First "offshore" trip in the Whatknot was good. Lots of blood on the deck.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!! Gotta love the light tackle catch,,,, so much more fun than winching them up just harder on the nerves! That trigger fish is poor....poor, I'll come by and pick that up for you and put it in my crab traps.....or grill. Did you have a trailer on that bucktail jig?

The jig was naked. Jodi wasn't. I'm heading back again saturday in my buddies 23 if weather permits. Saw tons of spade fish and the cobia seemed to run with them. Thanks all.

Congrats. Cobia, or lemonfish, as we like to call them is one of my favorites. (a good steak of cobia on the grill, mmmmm) Triggerfish on the other hand are my dad's favorite fish to eat. If you dive though, look out; they are very territorial.

I've got a blackening recipe on the recipe section. You may be able to try the trigger like that. Otherwise I'd have to agree with FWB, you can just bring it to my house, I'll get rid of it for you.

I've got a dive buddy here at work and he dives in Florida for bugs. He said the triggers will eat the legs right off the lobsters while they are holding them. Also his buddy got nipped pretty good on the leg by a territorial trigger. Sounds like they are some mean lil boogers.
