Hey guys, just a quick question...

The 91 Hydra I'll be looking at on Friday is leaking fluid out of the trim/tilt area... I don't know much more than that. The guy was quoted $600 to fix...

Here's my question: Would either one of these units fix the problem and is it easy to change out? I would be pulling the motor to do the work.

well yes and no, they will fit a V4 no mods but on a V6 looper will require you to change the tilt pin bushings and replace the lower bolt to a rod as the V6 ones use. i's say jusy buy a V6 looper one.

It looks like up until 90 that either of those would work, but 91 went to the pin style like SKOOLZ talks about according to the BRP catalog. You would need a FASTRAK style if it is a 91 trim and tilt.

Or another option would be to take this unit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110243414407&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001 and remove the tilt tube and trim ram pin. And then use the the clamp brackets from it and swap it over to the other engine set-up. The FASTRAK style trim and tilt fetch's a pretty penny even on EBAY used.

Hey Ferm - How much are the fasttrak units going for . . . I have a trim and tilt for a 1995 200 that I need to sell off (actually a complete mid-section). . . would that work?

Guys, I thought the Fastrak units were for 96 and newer motors :head:

If I do need a Fastrak, then would this one work?:

Skools, hopefully I will eventually learn what to look for between loopers and crossflows, but for now I'll lean on you and Ferm and BS and CB, etc...

This is the engine. So, is it a looper or crossflow?:

That is a looper, never seen a 225 cross-flow(cross-flow came in 200 and 235). The FASTRAK style actually came out in 91 on the V6 loopers according to the BRP catalog. The easy way to tell is that a pre-91 will bolt in and a fastrak will be held in with a big pin. I seen that used ones were bringing $400-500 on Ebay. There was also a V4 and a V6 style FASTRAK unit. Don't know what the internal differences are, but my CLYMERS shows 2 different FASTRAK'S.

Thanks for that Ferm,

Seeing that I will need a Fastrak, would this one work?:

i don't think it willbe a fast track my 92 225 doesn't have fast trac andno the old V4 and V6 ones don't just swap. different in several places i learned from trying to do the swap. those BRP books aren't always right don't trust that.

Okay, so then the first ones I posted would work, right? These ones:

First thing to do BGA is to figure out what it currently has, and then how bad it is. If it is a VERY minor seep, then slap it on your dually, fill it with fluid, and sell it. Repairing it wouldn't help it to bring enough extra money to justify fixing it. If you have to fix it, then go from there. As for the V4 and V6 interchange, I guess I lucked out. My 85 140 has a trim and tilt off of an 88 200 on it. The new boat I just got has the FASTRAK on it though. I was hoping to save the one off of my 140 for it, but it's a no go. It has a 88-92 style powerhead, but it has a 98 mid section.

Skools, I guess that' s part of my problem. I don't know what I'm looking for.

Therm, perhaps you're right; I shouldn't count the trouble till it's mine... I suppose I'm just trying to think ahead a bit.

Ok, I noticed my main trim rod (the one that raises and lowers the motor) is leaking and this thread has lead me to a question. I notice he wants to replace the entire unit but couldn't I just rebuild the unit woth new seals, orings or what ever it uses. If yes is it a very tough job?

They can be rebuilt, but the problem comes in the form of getting the old one apart. The rams are all aluminum and they tend to freeze together, and when you go to pull them apart the threads come right out and then you end up replacing the whole thing anyways.
