My brother and I took his boys Owen(6) and Isaac(4) fishing in the Humboldt bay on Saturday. Owen is getting to be an old hand at this but Isaac had never caught a fish. My mission for the day was to get him connected with a surf perch and start the fishing addiction. It was a little cool but the wind cooperated. I'll let the pictures tell the story...

First, a bit of a hike to get over to the bay. Your's truly in the middle flanked by the Owen on the left and Isaac on the right.

Sometimes fishing requires intense focus and concentration.

At other times a more relaxed approach is in order.

Either way, persistence pays off. Owen's first red tail.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! Isaac, on the right with his first fish ever.

Fishing is never just about the fish.

Nice job TH.

With the way kids are going these days with video games and text messaging, I am afraid that there will be a shortage of fishermen in 20 years.

Thanks for doing your part to ensure the future of the fisherman.

good job Tuna, congrats to the little guy.

on another thought while looking at those pics, holy crap you got some drift wood out there. can you imagine hitting that puppy just under the surface with your V.

here in Raritan Bay we get some junk after a storm but our big headache is telephone poles floating standing up style with just a the tip maybe sticking out.

CONGRATULATIONS OWEN and ISAAC !!!!!
And WELL done TH and your brother for giving your kids the best gift, YOUR TIME.
The first time I was able to take my sons fishing was last year, they were 11 and 17 already at the time, and when they each catched their first one, the look on their faces was worth a million bucks. My older son started laughing like insane, he was hooked on fishing forever, my younger son was a little sorry, he loves animals in a protective way, he lets his catch go back to the Blue.

I was watching guys wahoo fishing on YouTube the other day and my youngest daughter (8) walked in just as they were slamming the gaff in a 50 lb wahoo and bringing it over the rail. She cried for a solid hour.

I had to have a long talk with her about how Jesus fed the masses with 5 loaves and just 2 fish. And that God gave us fish to eat because it is very healthy and good for us. And to make her feel even better.....I said now that the toothy wahoo is gone alot of smaller fish will get to live much longer because those mean ol wahoo eat alot of little fish!!
:sun:
She felt alot better.
