Dear Mr. Highsmith,

Thank you for your interest in Blue Sea Systems' products.

You will have to rely on the engine manufacturer for more details about their recommendation not to use an aftermarket battery isolator.

We do not sell any battery "isolators" by the common definition of the device. What we do offer are called Automatic Charging Relays (ACR's), and they do not share the main drawback to an isolator which is an inherent voltage drop due to the use of diodes in their design. Perhaps the diode design is the "built in" feature they are concerned about.

You may well find that our ACR's are perfectly acceptable alternatives to an isolator, but the engine manufacturer may not be knowledgeable enough about them, and thus leery of ok'ing them. To our knowledge there have been no major problems using them with outboards.

I hope this helps, but unfortunately I can't offer any advice specific to your engine.

Best Regards,

Subject: Iso info

Hello my name is Brent and I just purchased a used 20 foot boat that I plan to re-wire with the Blue Seas add a battery system, bus bars and fused switch panel. I have been refered to your products by many boaters on a Forum I am a member of. I planned on ordering all Blue Sea equipment before the weekend but I have suddenly hit a snag. While reading through the manuel for my outboard engine(2004 Evenrude 200hp DirectInjection) I happened upon some info in the battery section. It said never install an after market batt isolater because it has some feature built in???? Can you give me any advice, I was really looking forward to the re-wire and the great products you have.
