does your shift lever move freely? or is it hard to move?

Did you remove the drive when you did it?? If so there is a arm in there that has to go on just so to make the shifter work.

If you just droped the lower unit, did you get the key back in the shaft?

If you just did the lower unit thats is stright forward and shoukd be fine, But removing the hole drive can be tricky!

Like above posters stated, we need to know how you did the pump. You most likely didn't put the gear selector in forward before you did the job, and the shift shaft turned while the unit was off.

With it in forward on the control, the shift shaft for the lower unit should be rotated all the way clockwise IIRC.

Some of the guys here will remember my write up last year on redoing one of these PITA ALPHA's. I learned alot from that project. Up until then I hadn't ever messed with an I/O, just outboards.

Good job OOK and Ferm.

This calls for a shot of the PINK JEEP, what do you say FERM?

Kid:

Whenever You're Removing The Outdrive Or Any Part Of It, Have Someone Rotate The Propeller Clockwise While You Engage It Forward. That Will Put The Shift Arm In The Rigth Position.
