Seaboard??

what is this seaboard you guys speak of? How much is it?...better than starboard? Can it be glassed?

CPG Seaboard = King Starboard = UV stabilized High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Plastics distibutors that you can buy UV stable HDPE are almost always cheaper by a longshot (like 40% of the cost) than buying Starboard from West Marine, BoatUS, etc. No, it's not a good coring material because stuff doesn't stick to it too well. Being high density, the material isn't porous to give resin, adhesives, etc. something to bond to. It's great for making things out of, that are mechanically fastened to the boat.

The CPG Seaboard is much cheaper than the Starboard and has essentially the same physical properties. Generally used for trim, components, anything that is made of wood can be made from this material. But as Chesapeake stated, not good for coring and also doesn't allow adhesion with bonding agents such as 3M 5200 (and the like).

I love the stuff!!

I have made new front bulkheads, fish box covers, replaced the teak runners on the bow for the hatch with it also. Made a new dash, and soon I will be making rear bulkhead and side gas tank covers. O yea and the New anchor Pulpit!!

I did glue down a piece for a cuttring board about 4 years ago with 5200 but it is starting to come apart now. and that is a non stress thing to do with it.

Hi, Does anyone know how well paints (epoxy, urethane, etc) will adhere to these panels ? I also have to make some covers for the deck floor storage recesses ... and at some point would probably want to paint the floor and covers.

I'm no paint expert, but I don't believe you'll get good paint adhesion either. The stuff does come in a limited supply of different colors though.

figure out what color you want to paint and then order the matching color starboard.

Ok.... well I buy my starboard from a plastic dist. here in town and it is about 55.00 for a quarter sheet of 1/2 inch starboard. Boat US wants about 150.00 for that same piece here. Is that as cheap as this stuff? Is it something this same place might carry,just cheaper than starboard or is it essentially the same thing as starboard?

Also what material would be good for glassing on that is reasonably priced?

This is what we pay. I buy a hole sheet!! Yiu can make anything out of it and once you have it you will use it!!

I bought a full sheet of 3/4 and have a 4 1/2 X 2 1/2 sheet left over. Thought I would never use it, Guess what!! When I am done with the pulpit it will be just about gone!!
I am going to be buying a full 3/8 inch soon also!! To do the side tank covers over and make my own coustom cup holders!!

Sheet size is 54" x 96". Add 15% for cut-to-size.
