I have a 1978 steplift and want to put on a transom plate but i am not sure what is under the alumium molding that goes accross the the transom edge
does anyone know
is it open or finished with fiberglass?
any info would be appreceiated

i hard its open but that doesnt make sences i would like to know if anybody removed it and knew for sure

every fiberglass boat i've owned, [about 10-12]... have had glass under those aluminium trim pieces

The holes in my Sea Drive set up were epoxied nice and tidy! I'd assume your transom is as well under the aluminum trim.

Why do "they" put that alum trim there anyway...looks like POOP... :P...

Maybe it was supposed to "protect" it? I don't know, but I got rid of mine. ;D

Well, I figured while I had my stuff all tore apart and the camera out, I would snap a picture for you. It looks like the fiberglass from the splash well comes up and over towards the stern with a small gap between it and the fiberglass on the transom. I hope this helps.

I kind of hate to see that . The trim on mine is starting to get a few bad spots on it as well . I guess that is where the water get into these things and you get transom rot .
