Bilge Blower

The old ( I think original) bilge blower in my boat is dead. Does it matter what I use to replace it? I am thinking of putting in a 3inch inline blower, but just want to make sure it is the right one. Also do i want the blower blowing into the bilge or out?

I think they are all 3", but as long as it fits your hose or you buy the hose to fit it will be fine!!

You want the blower to suck the fumes out!! The fumes are havier then air and sink to the bottom of the bildge, this is why you need to get them out!

You should have some vent holes in the transom with clam shells on them? one should face forward and one to the rear. This is to blow in good air while under way and out the back. There is a third for the blower.

Yes, I have the 3 clam shells (just like Sylvester Stallone in Demolition Man)

I just wasnt sure if the fumes were forced out by sucking fresh air in.

My current blower hangs from the inside bottom of the top of the bilge area (I have a I/O). Is this ok if the fumes are at the bottom? Should I have a hose run from the blower to the bottom somewhere?

If you look closely at the new blower motor you should see a directional arrow which should face away from the motor and this will vent via the 3" hose through your clam shell and away from the boat. On the opposite side of the fan, your 3" hose should be run to the engine compartment just under the motor. This is the best way of doing it. Pretty straight forward.
