prop looks o.k., did you just blow out the hub? The new prop looks nice, is it same diam. and pitch as the old one?

the old one is not all that bad and I have used it for a while now.
I have never been all that happy with that prop. It is a 14 1/4 X 17
I tryed my old I/O prop and it was great!! But it was a 15 3/4 X15 and you really can't fit it on there well.
I called a nice guy at NE Props and we had a long talk about what I am getting and what I wanted to get.
I wanted to slow down my trolling speed, I wanted better out of the hole, and I was only getting 5000 to 5100 rpm's.
By going down 2 inches he says I will get out the hole better, I will slow down the troll, and I should move rpms up 300, to 5300 to 5400 rpm's, and I am able to do 5500 so this will get me right to were I want to be, I hope?
I asked about top end speed and he said I migh lose some but were I was not getting the RPM's I needed that I might not even notice??
Next Tuesday I will find out for sure, and I will let you know how I will make out.
Also whats nice about this prop is that it is a 2 piece system, $89, and just the prop was only $60
At that price I will order another if it is the right one.
The 17 pitch I took off will now be my spare.

I run a 17 inch 4 blade on a merc 150. *It used to have a 17 inch 3 blade. *Are you going to a 15 inch? *If so, you'll get the rpm's you want. *Good luck. By the way I run a 14 1/2" diameter. *

5800 ? sounds like its a bit high... the tach on your boat may need to be calibrated?
macojoe
06-11-2005, 01:57 PM
way to many rpm for a 19!!~ May need a new tac?? also 19 is not a good match for that boat!!
go dow to a 17 pitch and you wil be much better off.

17will give you better all around performance. No more stoping to restart !!
I think your Tac is messed up.

06-11-2005, 11:12 PM
what kind of motor do you have
macojoe
06-11-2005, 11:41 PM
I have a 175 Yamaha, But most all here run 150's and the 17 is what seems to work best most!
But try what ever you want and make you chose. Call your local mariner and tell him what you have and what you want, I am sure he will also tell you a 17.
But before anything Check that the tac is telling you the truth!! 5800 with a 19 is way over and makes no sence?? And that means you will have to move up to a 21 and if you think you catch air now wait till you try that!
Never heard of q boat in this class that needed a 21!!

Mine works best w/a large DIAMETER prop 15 1/4" and a 17 pitch...I've tried a LOT of different props over the last several months and concluded a big blade "pushes" our V20s better than the extra revs a smaller diameter allows
1000rpms/4.9mph...2000/8.3...3000/14.8...4000/27.1...4400(top cruise)/30.5...5000/35.2...and WOT is 6000/42mph (GPS)....that's as good as I can get it and really don't expect there's any more there to be gotten in terms of performance... ;) ;D...
CB, he just ain't gonna let you up over that prop, is he?...

No he's not!
:-[ I'm just gonna have to live up to the reputation he's building for me and shred that new prop as well. ;D Funny thing is..........I don't do that to my props. ;) 8)

Smart thinkin', CB... w/ what MJ says he's payin' for the props, you can't hurt him too bad...don't mess it up too bad...just nick it a little... ;) ;D...
Hey, MJ...did I see it's in the high 80's up there on the cape...I can only assume all the snow's melted... ;D...

The 21 prop is spun by a 1999 Evinrude 225 High Output, reportedly closer to 250 hp than 225. I think this motor was designed for bass boats with 225 transom ratings. I can get the V20 to about 57 mph on GPS without too much weight in the boat. I cruise at 40 at 4400 rpm's. If I trim it just right, I can get 3 mpg as well.

it is a 1985 V20. I have some digital pics on my computer, but I don't know yet how to post them. I think I need to load them on a photo site of some sort. I could email them to you if you know how to post pics.

I knew I was close to 250. Thanks for the info. I started a photobucket page. I pics of the boat in action with fish blood, gear, beer, and no fear...and I might find pics of just the boat sitting, begging to run. Should I post here, start a new thread, or gallery? I am going to the How TO section to check out how to start a gallery. That section was helpful for the photobucket direction. Let me try to see if I can import a pic here for a test:

That sounds great. I requested a gallery last night. I will go check to see if I have any feedback. By the way, take a look at that redfish real good in the pic. Something is missing

Yeah my girlfriend was fighting it for almost ten minutes on fairly light tackle when she felt a stronger tug. She thought the fish got off at first. The red just had more trouble fighting the battle without his propeller. He came right to the net after that. Either he had no more power or he wanted outta dat water!

Yeah, that's a bummer when those toothy critters bite off a good fish like that...happened to last king mackeral I caught...did the bite-off affect the slot-limit keeper?... :)...
