Just pulled mine last weekend. It wasn't bad to get out, but I did have to cut the cable twice with a hack saw. I'm going hydraulic, no more cables for me. I know it's more money, but it'll be worth it. I took my starboard rod box out and it made it alot easier. This will be the third steering system on my 86. Paid $465 plus $20.00 shipping for a baystar system on ebay vs $689.00 at West Marine.

It is a 16' cable. Trust me on this. I tried a 15' and it was too short and then a 17' and it was too long. Guess what? A 16' fit perfectly! Mind you this is a I/O 165 HP model.
