Question of the morning. After court this morning, was gonna hit the boat store and pick up a new water pump, seals and thermastats. Dont know anything about the motor other then being told its a 1986, but nothing I see says 1986. Would any number on the serial indicate the year of the motor ????
My serial number on the motor is A914379. Wanna make sure I get teh right parts. Are replacing the seals on the lower unit a big deal. Have the green lower unit fluid leaking out from under the prop.
Thankx !!

Hammer, you're doin' the right thing...if oil's gettin' out, then saltH2o's gonna get in...What does your paperwork say what the yr model is?...if you're buyin' from a good reliable dealer, what you've shown here should be enough to get the right parts...is there a MODEL number in addition to the SERIAL number...if so, they may need that...have ya put 'er on the trailer yet?...if so, haul that baby w/ you and tell 'em you want seals for "THAT" motor ;D ...

All these heavy down pours have been delaying me putting her on the trailer. Maybe today I hope after court.

The time is here, splashing the boat in the water and see how she does. Was told that Mercury motor dont pee vary well to begin with until the therastats warm up. Not sure if that is true or not, but gonna dunk her in the water and see how she runs while in the water instead of those cheap water muffs.
Speaking of muffs, I also been told that when the motor is running and if your water pump is good, it should squeeze the muffs tight when sucking in the water from the hose. If you have alot of water leaking out from the muffs, time for a new water pump. Any truth to any of this ??
Damm, I'm excited to stick her in the water, like a young boy with his first Play Boy Mag. :o ;D :D :) ;) :P
Will post photo's if things go well.

My water pump has been fine for 4 years and I spray water all over the place when its on the muffs

As far as not peeing well till it warms up?? Mine was fine right after I started it?? it was a 90, 90 hp merc at that time.

Better safe than sorry on the water pump impeller. After all, what is it a $25 part or something like that? A small investment to prevent major damage!

You got that Right. Its well worth the extra time and small amount of money. Still need to install two new guages as well, volt guage and water psi.
