A couple of days ago I filled my tank with fuel and a short time later the engine wouldn't run over 1100 rpms. I'd give it the gas and the engine appeared to be starving for fuel. The water separator had some junk in it and I traced the problem to the gas tank. My rig is a 87 cuddy with a 2001 150 Yamaha 2 stroke. I ran a portable tank of gas and the boat ran fine. I pulled the deck off ( which was a b#@&*) and found a INCA brand gas tank (60 gal) that I'm pretty sure is plastic and is original. My question is I have about 45 gallons of fuel and I think the line leading from the tank to the engine has some crap in it and does it have a screen attached to it. Any suggestions?

Do you have any reason to think any junk got beyond the water/fuel separator? Maybe disconnect the line between the tank and the separator and blow compressed air through it. But the problem may still be junk in the tank itself. Cleaning it and draining it in situ is going to be difficult, but then removing the tank is no easy chore either. Maybe someone else can chime in?

I started draining the tank and got out about 25 gallons when I saw the silver protective shield from a an oil container float by. I fished that out which may have been the problem however when I ran approx. five gallons from the portable tank the same problem occured. The engine was starving and the bulb needed to be sqeezed repeatly. The gas in the portable was clean and fresh so now I'm really confused. I'll have to pull the boat and do a diagnostic check with a dealer. I should have known, vacation just ended and we have 4 days of 90 degree weather coming.

If you're havin' to constantly sqeeze the bulb, your fuel-pump is probably shot...happened to me on the water and had to keep squeezin' that puppy all the way home :P ...but it's a good thing ya got that piece of foil outta there...it woulda been a problem sooner or later ;) ...

Ok first do you guys run the new gas there??

TYe new gas cleans all the deposits from the tank and send to the filter.

There is a memo that all should be running 10 micron filters to stop all junk from getting to the motor.

Change the filter asap and thwen give it a try.

If that doesn't work then start looking for other stuff, as reel said does the ball stay hard? if not may be the fuel pumps?

Check the O rings at all connections, ck hose for holes, there is also a filter on the engin ck that.

if all cks ok and still runs like crap you may have gotten some crap past the filter and in the carb jets, disassamble and blow them out.

Ok there you go start checking and report back!

Good Luck!
