here she is guys. the plan, build one bad *** fishing boat that can run the barrier islands all day, run 24 miles to chandeleaur light, and run the marsh when she gets there. she needs to be strong, efficent, stable enough for 7 ft seas, and nimble enough for the bayous. in short, she needs to be a V-20. the trick is i gotta build her for under 4g's.

the hull---$1825

she is a 92. the biggest obstacles are windshields and motor. while we are searching for glass lets get started on that motor. the motor is a 92 johnson 175, it was submerged and is siezed. i contacted the former owner and he told me it ran fine before that little thunderstorm rolled through here back in august. so i guess we will try and fix her since we have no money for repower. skools offered his help so i will post pics and info for this phase in the how to section where someone with simular prob will most likely find it easier. tx

Looks like you have a great start to what will surely be a nice boat when finished. Good luck getting her off the ground.

.. an outboard mechanic I am not, but I do have the same motor, a 150....on the front of your engine cover, does it say "silver star series"....looks like it does in pic #5. Good reliable motor if it's worth fixing, best of luck to ya. The hull looks like it didn't get that beat up,with the exception of the windshield......the boat in the left background, pic#1 looks like it didn't fare to well

that's one great looking boat, do you have a trailer? you could buy this and use it's trailer and windshield then sell the parts off the hull and make some off the boat.

tx guys, and yes phes, it is a silver star. does that mean it runs better at night, lol. there are a lot of tore up boats down here! but, the old v20 is strong. she was in diamond head harbor. they got a 35 foot (three and a half stories) tidal surge there! and hurricane force winds for over 15 hours. she held up pretty dammn good!

tx skools. i already had a single axle that would haul it, and i bought a dual axle from stinky yesterday. i am still waiting to here back on size of that glass though. i may have windshields and a back up trailer for the back up trailer.

that 1968 Alim is the same boat as all ours. If i had room i'd buy it to just have it for another project but have way to many boats now.

oh yeah those Alim were the very first V20 hulls designed by Ray Hunt. Same as a Wellcraft.

i was told by a "know-it-all" that glass on this boat changed around 1980. i want to get some measurements to confirm this. i dont wanna say anything bad about the guy cause he just had a stroke and is in bad shape now. but i gotta consider the source. i need proof

Hey BR Measure your 2 boats and see if both have the same windshield's.

Blue_Runner

They don't Skools. The older hulls were 8'6" beam and mine is 8' even. As for the windshield, Franco's top that I bought came off an '83, and from what I can the windshield on the '83 was about 2 or 3 inches wider than the windshield on my '94 V-21.

Plus, notice the windshield on the Alim (its the exact same as my '72) they were straight across back then (like a jeep wrangler windshield) and the newer hulls they angled the windshield. You can kinda tell in pic 5. The center window is flat and on either side the side windows are angled back toward the stern ever so slightly. I don't know if you could make that work or not.

I say measure twice and buy once ;)

Oh yeah, and if you want a project, forget that old Alim and come get this '72 with a rebuilt trailer sittin under it LOL. ;D I've got it pulled out and will be taking pics soon for the sale - I promise this time!

The windshield took a hit but the bow rail came thru the storm. Looks good and good luck.

i think blu is right bud. if you look in the gallery older boats are visibly different.on the older ones the center windshield is wider than the two sides. the oppisite is true on the newer ones.

When you're on a budget . . . you've got to prioritize. The boat will run without a windshield ;) Catch my drift. Just focus on things that will get you on the water. Windshields come up ever once and a while . . . and usually sell for real cheap. Wait that one out and strike when you have a few extra bucks in your pocket.

thats good advice BS. and, if i squat down behind the dash i might ket another mph or two out of the rudy without windshields. better aero. lol.

heres an update guys. got the motor to turn over yesterday and feeling pretty confident that it will be running soon. tx to a lot of help from you guys and skoolz especially. got the bow rail off. it came off pretty ez, guess i was lucky. i am thinking of adding another compartment in the floor, aft of the gas tank, for batteries and oil tank. if i cut very carefully, do you guys think i can use the piece i cut out for the lid? also, do you think it will be deep enough for a bucket? tx guys
