MJ they've jerked you around pretty good on this shipping thing. Hate to hear about yet another broken promise. That sucks.

I bet they don't do their high volume customers like that! Or they wouldn't stay in business.

I guess they don't care that we are NOT recommending them to the 700+ members on this site who could very likely need something shipped at some point.

At least you got the motor off and you are ready when they finally come through.

Good luck! Wish I was closer to help you hang it.

P.S. The motor has a trim indicator on it. You should be able to hook that up to one of the guages. When they installed my new motor they didn't take it off and put it on the new one, so I just left it. You may or may not want to try to hook that up. Its pretty nice to not have to look back to see how the motor is trimmed.

macojoe
06-21-2006, 12:39 PM
Yea they have busted my balls real good on this!! I have told him so also!!
They no there will no biss from us thats for sure!!~

Yep I am ready!! Will have on with in a hour of its arrivel!!

As for the trim indacator, I had one on my old also, they are per wired in so that tey work with your TAC, the tac shows oil level, tac, hour meter, and trim.

I have to get a new one, as the old does not work on the new motor, They make adapter from the new tac to old motor, but none for old tac to new motor *>:(

Thats ok I will get another, But CB is going to come and read the spec and see if we can't rewire the old tac to work for the set up??

Any way my hope is to be on the water for next week!!

Once again the camera is at the camper and had to use the cell phone, the pic's look like crap today!! :(

Just talked to CB he will be here tomorrow 9am and we will hopefully get things done??

After looking at the motor I have found that the wire harness is different

The big round plug is the same but to 2 smaller plugs are different??

______________________________________

BR also did this motor have the oil injection hooked up?? I noticed there is a linkage on that side ofm the motor disconected??

also one more thing, do you have the metal plate that holds the cables and wires down in the front of the motor??
has 2 screws, and goes on to hold all the wires and cables down and keeps the water out, its not there?

Hope to be in the water tomorrow!!

MJ - Stick with premix. Oil injection is a ticking time bomb on older motors.

Get a piece of metal or rig up something with the screws, so that you can ZIP tie those cables together. My Bro just picked up 2 - 1991 250's and is going to part them out. I'll see if he can spare a metal piece if it will fit.

macojoe
07-14-2006, 08:36 PM
well the other Yamaha I had wouldn't run permix!! would foul the plugs every third trip?

reelapeelin
07-15-2006, 09:49 AM
I'm with Bigshrimpin'...Pre-mix if at all possible...at any rate, glad to see ya got 'er hung again...

Whatever happened to your old 175?...will the lower-unit bolt up to this one and take care of that busted anti-cavitation plate?...just a thought :)...how'd the wiring work out?...is there an adapter for that?...

macojoe
07-15-2006, 02:35 PM
Well we got it all figured out as far as the wires are.

It was touch and go for awhile!! CB was just staring a big blank at the wires, but after a cold Sprite and a trip to the store for some connector's we were all set!!

We have the wires run cables run and have disconnected the oil for now. But it will nmot run!! >:(

It seems BR stiffed me with a bad starter!! ;) :D ;D

I am going to ebay now to see if I can find one for cheap.

You know if I new my old motor was going to whole sale I could have stole the stater befor they got it.

07-17-2006, 12:26 AM
Hey man, sorry about the starter. It was slow starting the last time I cranked it...I thought you said you were going to keep your old starter just in case? We talked about that didn't we? :-/ ???

Your other question - yes, last it was ran the oil injection was hooked up and functional. The metal plate? Do you think that was maybe left on my boat when they took the motor off? I'm not sure I know exactly which plate you mean? Is it part of the motor or part of the wires on the boat?

Looks good MJ! Keep me posted. I'm just getting back from a weekend with the misses, so sorry I didn't get back with you sooner. Let me know if you have any more questions.

macojoe
07-18-2006, 03:57 PM
I am back for a day from the camper!

Yea no worry on the stater, I am looking into getting one today.

Oil injection is disconnected?? Thats why I asked if it was working??

Metal plate in the one that goes on top of the wires and cable when they go thur the fron of the motor, you put it there to hold the water and stuff out, then you add the engin cover!

Thanks I will keep all posted !!

Blue_Runner
07-18-2006, 05:38 PM
If someone can post a pic of what this metal plate looks like I can check around the house for it.

Also, the oil injection was working fine when I had the motor removed. The previous owner had put a brand new oil tank on the boat, which I kept for the new motor.

macojoe
07-18-2006, 11:12 PM
I can live with out the metal plate.

CB and I will look at that linkage and see whats up?? Looks like it was taken off??

Thats why I did not think it workesd.

Also has the wrong plugs in it?? I will put the right ones when I get it running.

Hope to get a starter this week.

Thanks BR!!

BR - I think this is what MJ is talking about.

MJ - my brother (in MA) just bought 2 1991 yamaha 250's (one is blown). He's gonna part them out. Both came with oil tanks . . . If BR can't locate the plate . . . I'll ask my bro if he'll hook you up.

Skools Out
07-23-2006, 03:14 AM
BR didn't you use the same oil tank on your new motor so that wouldn't be with it right?

chumbucket
07-23-2006, 01:27 PM
The metal plate (probably aluminum) that MJ is referring to is a clamp of sorts that screws down around the shift and throttle cales as well as the wiring harness where it passes through the lower engine cowling. Then the engine cover fits down over everything.

macojoe
07-23-2006, 04:11 PM
Yes CB is right, I have all the oil tanks and stuff so I am set there.

reelapeelin
07-24-2006, 07:58 AM
Doesn't that metal plate hold throttle linkage in place??...w/ out that it won't stay put to work against the spring on the linkage... :P...

chumbucket
07-24-2006, 09:10 AM
No. There is a clamp inside the engine cowling to hold the cables in place. This clamp just keeps everything together as it passes through the lower cowling.

chumbucket
07-24-2006, 09:35 AM
Okay. So we don't have to keep tossing the issue of the "plate", "clamp", whatever you want to call it, here's a pic pointing to the item in question. ::)

That should have been with the motor. I never saw the front of the motor after the shop took it off because they layed it back down in the factory crate from the new motor.

What's up MJ, still looking for a starter?

Throw a rope around that flywheel like a real man ;D

When I towed it to have the new motor put on, the piece was there. Pic confirms it. I'm sure they took it off when unhooking the controls, layed it down and proceeded to remove the engine.

So whats the status on the install MJ how's it looking

macojoe
07-27-2006, 10:11 PM
Ok as stated above the peice is missing, but not the end of the world!!

I found a guy near me that would rebuild the starter I have, I took to him on Monday at 4 pm, he called Tuesday at 11 am and said its all set!!

It needed new brushes, spring and armature, cost me $125

I had my Daughter pic up for me as I was at the camper till today.

I just installed the starter and it turns just fine!!~

Now I will try to start tomorrow??

As for the next problem, the Oil Injection linkage rod has been disconnected and a part is missing??

BR says that the injection was fine when he used it, but there is no way it can work right now??

I think the mariner that did the repower for BR browed a few things they needed, Thinking the motr to be junk??

Well I am going to premix for the start, and order the part I need when I find the part name.

I am draging the camper home Monday and will have time to play with everything next week.

Skools Out
07-28-2006, 01:33 AM
yeah MJ Marina's are great for using parts off other peoples motors that you don't notice at first.

Blue_Runner

Keep us posted on the crank up MJ.
Sorry about the injection thing, its been one thing after another.

One thing I don't understand though, is if this linkage rod is part of the motor, wouldn't my new motor have had one? Could it be part of the injection system rather than a part of the motor?

macojoe
07-28-2006, 03:18 PM
the injection rod comes from the Carbs to the injection pump.

When you give the boat gas it also moves the oil pump to give the proper oil.

Idle it gets 100:1 and at full throttle it gets 50:1

The rod is threaded on the end near the oil pump. there needs to be a peice that has a plastic gromet that pluges on to the pump.

Someone unscrwed that small piece.

I am going out there now to work on it. I try to get a pic for you.

macojoe
07-29-2006, 03:10 PM
Ok I worked on the motor yesterday and she fired right up!!

I did a decarb and added decarb to the gas, after the first decarb she was already running better!!
I did a 2nd decarb and she ran even better!!

Now I permixed the gas for now till I can get the part.

Hit the water today, she is idling way to low!! Had a hard time getting her started cause she was so low, and the high idle lever isn't working?? (another thing to fix) But got her going and off we went.

She ran nice and even all the way out of Hyannis and out to the open water.

I opened it upand she tookm off nice!!

But after just a short run she would not go over 10 knots??

I told CB the hole story and there is a few things we have to take care of, Idle, High Idle lever, and the shifter for the throttle is real hard and now this problem.

Also need to figure out were the wires go for the Tac?? The old book for the 175 shows were eveything goes, but the new book makes no mention of a Tac let alone were to hook the wires.

We here are a few pic's

chumbucket
07-30-2006, 12:46 AM
It's mechanical. I already helped MJ troubleshoot the problem via phone. I think there is a worn bushing or washer that's making the shoulder bolt on the throttle lever pivot point bottom out and bind the lever. As soon as he loosened that shoulder bolt a bit, the lever moved freely. Nothing serious. Just one more trip to Cape Cod and we'll have her purring. ;)

You should have seen the wireing!!

The 94 is different then the 88, CB stared at the wire diagram for both, and after a bit of cofusion and a trip to get conectors, he cut all the wires at one time and then just started to crimp things toghter, looked like he did it every day of his life!!

Ok start it he says and it turned over first shot!! I would have never got that in a million years!!

Yes with out CB, I be in a world of hurt right now!!

Thanks CB, I love you :-*

Good to see you guys on the water!!! ;D in case the bushing doesn't fix the problem . . . 703 control boxes are available from Marine Connection Liquadators for $99 + shipping. Sometimes my old Yamaha would go into RPM reduction mode. It would shake violently and you couldn't crack 2500rpm. A loose battery connection was always the culprit . . . I ended up getting a lock washer.

macojoe

ok the bushing that we speak of is on the motor end not the controll box.
Its the to levers tall and short that move the timeing advance and throttle.
Thye bolt in the center is the bolt and bushings that we are speaking of.

And no fish pic's for that trip, it was just a boat try out to see if it needed anything.
Did take rods and my buddy tryed, but I live in a fish poor area!!
I have to go to Chatam or Falmouth to catch fish, none in the midcape.

Blue_Runner
08-07-2006, 01:36 AM
MJ, way to go, glad you made it to the water. It sounds like it might be the spark plugs?? It started doing that after I checked the compression with the fuel lines connected. Would run good for 15 minutes and then suddenly foul a plug. I figured my leaving the fuel lines connected while turning it over flooded it out pretty good and caused the fouling plugs. That scenario went on about 3 times, then on the 4 time out it ran good the whole time with a fresh set of plugs (the ones you said were the wrong plugs ;)). Ran good for 4 hours on that last trip which was 4th of July '05.

I think the problem can be licked, I just don't know why it would still be fouling plugs? Anybody got ideas?
