Bottom paint remover

Used " BIX Tough Job" not impressed. Applied Bix three times to the same area. Still have some sanding to do. Bix worker better on the blue than the black outer bottom paint. Will post pictures.

How cold is it where you are ? * I used the Bix (from Home Depot - *"Spray on Stripper" in the orange colored can - not the Tuff Job) .... *and found that it didnt work well in colder temps. * If I can remember - *you really want the temp to be above 65 deg, or so. * It worked great for me - *spray it on - *wait 20 min - *scrape off gooey mess with plastic tool. *The gelcoat will be stained by the paint .... and there wil be no way to remove that *.... *but with some sanding.

Give that stuff a try on a warm, 80 deg day .... and I dont think you will have any problems removing thick bottom paint.

Is it a good idea to remove the anti foul coating that
is already on before putting neew anti-foul on??

If putting new anti-foul on, that it does not matter about the stains!?

I think having several coats of bottom paint on your hull creates drag. When you have several coats on and it chips, it looks like crap. I actually need to do some touch up myself this spring. Floated over a piece of rebar in the canal and scratched teh hell out of my bottom paint. >:(

The Bix Tough Job was applied whan the temp. was in the mid fifties. Will wait to try again when it is warmer

I started today with a simple scrapper and the bottom paint came off no problem. I cleaned 25% of the bottom in an hour or so. It helps that its about 25 degrees so the paint is stiff and comes off in large sections.
