Hammer, don't know if these will help, or if they are too late? *But, they are pics none the less and we all know you love yer pics... ;D
First, the starboard side of my motor:

Next, a closeup of the trim / tilt solenoids:

Now, a fuzzy closer-up of the top solenoid.

On this picture, there are two components centered. *The piece on the left is the rectifier / regulator.

It's probably different from your 86' I'm guessing?

Airslot, great pics. and I think they will work. Like I said. I hear a clicking noise coming from the motor and no tilt, so I'm figuring I must replace the soliniod. Seen a used set on E-Bay for 40.00 bucks, but want to find out how much it is to replace with new.
Again thanks. ;)

I belive that Blue Green Red & black are all for the trim. Black is ground so leave it alone, Red is the power. Blue & green is up and down.
In my Yamaha all i had to do was touch lets say green cause I for got. to the red and the motor went up, blue and the motor went down.
That got the motor up for me to work on the tilt motor. I am sure it will work for you also.
BUT WAIT FOR SOMEONE THAT NO"S MERC cause I no want you blowing anything else up!! :o

It might be a shocking moment!! :o
I would not cross the screws with a screw driver!! But remove the green and touch to the red, if goes up your set, if it goes down then do the same with the blue.
I would have done it all ready but thats me ::)

Hammer,
Make sure you got one of those donuts in your mouth while you touch the wires, in case you get shocked, you got something to bite down on due to pain ;D

You can jump power to the blue or green wire for up / down. You won't hurt anything.
Before that, with the cowling off, see if that may be where the clicking is coming from. I gentle tap with the screw driver may free the sticking relay, temporarily.
