OK, more questions from a newbie.
I'm looking at a 1988 V20 CC, owner admits it has a 6x12inch soft spot in the floor, in front of the console.
Question is....
Is this a warning flag for more damage, if this spot is soft will the rest of the floor likely follow. Or do you think a local area repair should be enough.
My logic (and limited fiberglass knowledge) would make me think if part of the floor is soft, there must be a reason and the rest of the floor should now be suspect?
What do ya think V20 guru's..............

There's a good chance that it is just the one spot. Most of the time it due to someone not seeling screw holes and over time water seeps in causing the problem. With that said its a good chance that none of the screw hole have been properly sealed. I have a small soft spot where my cooler seat is mounted. I removed it a couple of years back and did not reseal the holes. I did seal and the spot seems to have not grown sense it was done.

i just noticed my V20's floor has gone soft on me so soon as the 21 project is out of the garage you'll see me cut the floor out of my V20 and redo her like new.

Cut, cut ,cut. Thats the only way you will know for sure. Look what i did to mine. It started as a small section like yours. 6 x12. The next thing i knew we had the hole front end cut out.Good luck

I just bought a v20 and looked at one with a soft spot in the floor. Check the stringers if you can get at them, especially where the soft spot is. Tap around with something hard and listen for soft spots. I used the cross pin from the receiver on my hitch. if theres any questions move on, i did and i'm glad, I found one $1000 cheaper in better shape and with more gear in only a week. If its really cheap it could be worth fixing, but why start with a new boat having to fix it :-/.

Wow Parrot, I hope you know your stuff when it comes to wiring. *That's a serious ball of spaghetti you've got there... *I know I'd be in trouble if I didn't mark every one of those wires. *How's your project coming along? *I think you made the right decision in cutting out the amount that you did. *Better safe than sorry. *

LOL !!! Ive got most marked.Theres a few that dont seem to go anywere. Ive got a friend that does the wiring for Cape Horn here in town and he said he would rewire the hole boat. He said it would take him maybe 3 hours. When you do that everyday, 6 days a week, he says it becomes really easy. Your right , im glad i started cutting. It was amazing how much bad wood there was.We kept cutting 6 inch strips until we come to good wood.

Now all im waiting on is for my fuel tank. Didnt think it would take this long. That seems to be holding me up more than anything. Getting a little aggravated now.Oh well , what can you do but smile. ;D ;D ;D

:( :( :(
The 6x12 soft spot on this boat I'm talking about is closer to feet than inches.....Basically the whole floor from the fuel tank forward is soft.
I will keep looking for a non-project boat :-/
Thanks for the info guys.

I think you've made the right decision. *Man, there are so many boats to choose from. *Be patient and take your time and you'll be happier in the end. *If I had it to do all over again, I would've chosen a different route than the one I took. *I wish I had known about this site before I bought my boat. I wasn't really looking for a project boat and I didn't necessarily buy mine as a project, but it became one nevertheless. *Truth is, the grass will always look greener. *So, take your time, do your best to learn as much as you can about the boat. *If all checks out, then buy it and don't look back. *
