I have a 1995 Starboard brand trailer, same as a loadrite. It is a single axle with a capacity I believe of 3700 lbs. I'm interested in replacing the hubs but I don't know what size I need. I saw some complete kits on Ebay that look pretty good.

if there is nothing wrong with them you are fine, just replace berrin and races when needed.

That said unless you have the model and no someone that deals with them, the only way to find out is to remove it.

You will have a tapered shaft I am sure, something like 1 1/4" inside and 1" outside?

It's probably 1 3/8" outter by 1 1/16'" inner. If the bearings are two different sies, thats what you have. All the boat trailers that I've worked on with 13" or larger tires have used this bearing set for a long time.

pull the hub and measure the spindle with a set of calipers, if you don't have any, use an open end wrench of the same size, ie: 1 1/16 wrench and 1 3/8,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm picking up a new set of Goodyear Marathons today and will be doing some other maintenace to the trailer. I found a site on Ebay, where for $60 you can buy a new set of hubs completely assembled with stainless lug nuts and bearing buddies. I don't want to worry about the trailer as I plan to take the boat to some different areas this season.

That sounds like a great price!!

My worse fear is to have to leave my boat on the side of the road!!

I had to do it once in 17 years in the spring of 2003, in the spring of 2004 came a brand new trailer!

Before sinking muney into a trailer check the framing to make sure that it is in good condition and not rusting through. I installed new axel, springs, bearings and replaced all of the rollers. when I was replacing the last couple of rollers towards the back of the trailer I reached down and grabbed the main frame for leverage. When I was pushing down on the wrench and pulling up on the frame my fingers went right through the frame. The rear of the trailer was trashed but it did not show until I gave it a good inspection. The good news was I cut off the rear and made a work trailer out of it so not all was lost.
