I checked today after work and it could be done this weekend :). The transom enclosure is done, the access hatch is ready to install, the new scuppers should be installed tomorrow, and the drain plug will be installed as soon as I get it cleaned up. Then all thats left is to install the bracket (it's still under lock and key Hammer ;D) and do the finish painting. I will get some more pics this weekend.

I'm in the process of turning my tiny backyard into a mini shipbuilding yard. Da neighbors are gonna luuuuve me *;D Anyway, phase one of the "crane" is complete. Hopefully I'll get it finished this weekend. Once I do, (and I get it to work) I'll post some pics.

Oh and after this I'm going to put a "Laaa-ser" on the moon, which I plan on calling my "Death-Star" and I'll ransom the world for ONE (zoom the camera in now...) MILLION DOLLARS! MUHWHOWHOWHOHAHA ::)
Hmm, now where'd I leave those meds I was suppose to take..... :o

It's getting closer to being ready for finishing. The holes for the new scuppers are in and the hole for the new drain plug is in. The transom incloser is 95% done. A little more finish sanding, install the bracket and some Gel coat and I will become very busy outfitting. ;)

2ndChance, whats teh bill talley so far on this ;D
Either way, she is looking good.
P.S. sorry to hear about the break in and the bracket being stolen. ;D

Thats not a crack, it's where somthing dripped on the transom and discolored the primer. I you look just to the right of center you can see more of it. The cost that was agreed on is $3000 unless some other problem came up. So far he hasn't said its going to be any more.

Could you have put a big fish box in the transom? *A couple of starboard lids on top as to make it easy to open? *Then again, put too much fish and ice back there and the ride wouldn't be so great either *:-/ Prolly not near as structurally sound either.
What about a hot tub? ;D
Dang man, that is looookin great! *Site for sore eyes! *I've been waiting for somebody to do that! *You go 2ndChance - as Randy Jackson says, "THAT WAS HOT BABY" *;D

The area in the encloser will be for the battery oiler and fuel filter. :)

Ok, sorry I'm a little late, but here's where I'm at this weekend: I finally got my "cranes" ::) put together and set up, lift the inner liner out from the hull and put the hull in the driveway so I could get it cleaned out. Once I started working on / inspecting the hull I found a few things that are going to have to be addressed. First, four of the outer bulkheads have seperated from either the hull or stringers. Second, there are spots on the stringers where the glass is not stuck to the wood. Third, the moister trapped by the foam for so long seems to have taken a small toll on the fiberglass.
So, can fiberglass go bad?
Anyway, enjoy the pics!
Poor man's crane in action.

I was a little nervous about whether or not I was going to get it high enough

It cleared!!!!

Inner Liner safely on the ground.

Bulkhead seperated... I have a few more pics of others that are seperated, but once you've seen one, you've seen them all.... ;D
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/JeffXJ/DSC00058.jpg
Here's a pic of all the crap I had to get out of it. The lesson here is if your going to put foam in a boat make sure you understand what areas you need to leave open so water wont get trapped.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/JeffXJ/DSC00063.jpg
I was able to get most of it cleaned out. Hopefully I'll have time to get the little stuff out tomorrow and then take it to a pro and get some estimates (or laughed at...)

I gotta hand it to ya', I always heard where there is a will there is a way. I think the engineering so far is impressive regardless of the boat. WOW.
I think this is going to be a wild ride. Keep the pics coming.

Great job!!!!
That doesn't look all that bad!! We have seen worse thats for sure!!
The foam blocking the water from getting out is a common problem!!
A lot of guys that have replaced there gas tanks have found the same problem.
What a nice crane!! I think you should disassemble it in the end and then ship to the next guy that needs it, and then that guy do the same and so on!! ;)

GREAT JOB, JeffX!! 8) ... looks like an engineering background thing goin' on there...nice work on the crane ... I'm like Hammer...if got enough sense to do that, why not finish yourself ;) ...
Which ever, keep the pix comin' cause they're GREAT 8) 8) ...
Please remind me what yr model yours is...looks like my '74...

Thanx all for the words of inspiration! Reel, my V is a '71. The reason I'm farming out the structural stuff is so that it's done right. The last thing I fiberglassed was a ding repair on my surfboard almost 20 years ago. I don't want the learning curve to start with the structural components. Besides, there's some other things on the hull I want a pro to look at just for peace of mind.
btw, no engineering background here... I'm just a telephone geek trying to figure out what the coyote would do in my shoes ;D Next I'll be strapping on an ACME rocket.... ::)

Keep up the good work Jeff. The stringers don't appear to look that bad to me. Was your floor soft? Or to re-phrase the question, what led you to believe the stringers were bad in the first place?
I've often wondered about the stringers on my '73 since there is no good way to inspect them short of tearing up the floor. I feel sure theres some delamination in there to some degree, but if they are rotten the floor sure is strong because I've jumped, bounced and banged all over it and can't find any spongy or weak spots. :-/
Nice work! You're gonna be a pro at this!

On my 73 I have wood paticals coming out of the bilge, some of them as big as a small coffe stirrer. Floor is still strong. I think that there are three bulkheads that connect stringers and give strenght to the fish boxes in the floor. I won't know untill I peel the floor up or go the way of separating the clamshell top from bottom.

Stringers dont look bad. Where they have seperated, I would simply reglass over them to make them stronger.
So how do yo resecure the deck to the stringers. A tube of 5200 or you wet it all back in with some West System ?
