actually Advance Auto sells High Zinc Self Etching primer for bare Aluminum and is cheaper than Tempo brand and same stuff. but you do need self etching primer if you strip to bare aluminum. i've done it both with and without and the with out last about 6 months and peeled off.

Strip that baby down Zip strip or whatever. I used teh zinc primer first and then the etching primer, She looks purdy for what i can afford. Buy the paint at the auto store. Save so much more. West Marine is twice teh cost for te same damm thing. Should be illegal. >:(

I buy my ZINC primer from NAPA. And ZINC primer is an etching primer, it is FAA approved for use on bare aluminum. I figure if it's good enough for an airioplane, it's good enough for a boat.

yeah all the green zinc primers are self etching and you had better use it first on the bare aluminum or you can paint it twice, either do it once and do it right or do it wrong and do it twice. the stuff from Advance is spray and i just used a can on my 225 i refinished. plus it's $4.85 a can compared to $9.50 a can from boat places.

My local ADVANCE don't carry it unfortunately, so I go to NAPA and the extra large can for $8. It's about 1/3 bigger than a regular spray can.
