Has anybody had this problem. When I fill the tanks in my 76 V, (2 side 18 gal) and trailer it after filling sometimes when I come to a stop I get fuel blowing out of the 2 side vents. Maybe the easy answer is just not to fill the tanks as much or there is a problem with the vents. Any Ideas?

I used to have an older v and it did the same. I've heard of others - MJ and I think RAP - that relocated the vent to above the rubrail and I think that helped out alot. I know it helps keep water out too.

They all did it, was a stupid design!!
Cut the hose, and leave old vents in place to keep from having to fill the hole!
Get some 90% Stainless vents and move to this location and worry no more!!

They make a valve that stops that. I added one in my v when I replaced all the lines.

About relocating the vents. Don't quote me on this but I think there may be a rule against the vent being higher than the fill.
If the vent is above the fill then you can overfill your tank without warning until you get a gusher at the filler.
Not saying it's a bad idea but I wonder if there is a reason why every boat I've seen has the vents lower than the filler.

P.S.
Show of hands... does anyone mind if I post my 250 Sportsman project pics here?

Tally, just post them in the Off Topic section. Skools has been keeping us up to date on a 21 foot boat that isn't a V in that section, so I'm sure the others won't mind. Plus, a number of guys really like the 250's, so you'll have an interested audience.

But I did it 7 years ago and I am not changing it now!! ;)
Yes you may post 250, just make sure they have super models on board!!

I know you want to put all you can in, but I stopped toppin' mine off long ago...gas DOES expand when warmed and used to gush outta the vents, so I leave 'em down a bit now ;) ...
...and we'd love to see the 250...Off Topic or even set up a Gallery ;) ...

Don't forget to put a loop in the vent line that goes above the vent, to keep water from getting to the tank.

I noticed I can barely get over 16 gallons in each saddle tanks till it starts leaking. I like MJs Idea.
Sorta related question. Is there any real need for the check valve in the pickup tubes? One's missing. I dunno whether to replace it ot remover the other one. Any tho'ts?

I got rid of mine years ago!! Some of these side tanks were 18 and some 20, that might explain why you get only 16 gal?

Think about it...when you 1st pump the gas, it just came outta the cool/cold ground ... all of a sudden it's in 85-90* temps and the stuff starts gettin' fat quick ;) ... gonna GO somewhere ;) ...
