I have a 112 Johnson Special on my 76 V and the last couple of times out after runnig for around 15 minutes at higher RPM's all of a sudden it will just lose power sometimes for just a split second and sometimes for a few seconds. Once I slow it down it seems to idle just fine. A couple of times on the way in from Striper fishing I thought it was going to die. Any Ideas? ??? ???

I would check your fuel pump. I had a VRO pump do exactly what you describe to me before.

Mine was doing the same thing. I change4d out the filter and changed the fuel line and ball. If that fails, new pump is next.

On a boat that uses portable tanks I would check the tank vent. Don't think this is your case, THEFERM and hammer is on the right track.

when it happens have some one pump the ball see if that helps, Cloged filter, blocked vent?
Also My Evinrude was doing stuff like that and I ended up needing a power pac later.

Thanks Guys. I did change the fuel filter but no help. I will try the Ball and hose also I am going to replace the vents. I did find a groud wire off of one of the coils. Any idea where this attaches to?

Sorry, The fuel vents. Everytime I come to a stop the fuel comes out the vents. I saw somewhere on thie site somebody replaced them and moved them up.

MJ and reel talked me into doing that also.

And I've looked at a couple of motors we got.
Only good guess on the wire is look in the box to the right for a removed or loose termination.

Looks like that wire may be a big problem. It appears to me it goes from that coil to your power pack, and that cylinder probably no longer fires....
Thats my best guess

Tsubaki's right...if your vents are still below the rub-rail, you could be (probably are) gettin' water into the tank thru them ... do you have a fuel/water separator??...if not, you should go ahead and install one regardless of how this turns out ... if ya do have one, check it for water...
This pic shows where the vent used to be (S'board plate below rub-rail) and where it is now (on the bulkhead behind the spring-line cleat)

your motor problems sound just like mine before relocatin' the vents...

Thanks Reel, I will be changing the current fuel/water seperator with a racor 10 micron this weekend I also will be moving the vents up.

If yer gonna relocate the vents to that bulkhead, you'll have to find vents with 90* bends in the tubes, unless you can rig up something else...I got 90s for mine and I'm pretty sure MJ did too ;) ...
