Shipping a Boat

I just cut a deal on a '89 v-20 w/ a '90 150 Yamaha out of Charlotte NC. Hours uncertain on the motor but probably less than 200 hrs. Boat is through a good friend's neighbor so I already know the boat from annual trips to NC for Memorial Day weekends

Price is pretty sweet so I can afford the shipping. Except for the trailer it really is a known qty.

It has a trailer but I need to get the boat to RI. Any ideas on shipping the boat and trailer vs. trusting an old trailer that far? Even with a good mechanical checkout I would be a bit concerned that I could have a major mechanical on the trip north and cost myself the shipping fee plus some major hassle!

Recommended haulers? $$?

Are you planing to buy a new trailer?? If so take a ride and go get it your self. This way you can give it the once over!!
Not that your buddy or you don't know the boat but lots of things can go wrong in a short time!! Go down for a long weekend ask for a ride then drive home on the new trailer!
Now you have done 2 things, vist a good buddy and made sure that your new purchase is what you want it to be.

Other then that I have no idea on hulers??

When I bought my V20, it was expected to cost about $1300 about a dollar a mile to ship it from Kansas to Virginia, since I only paid $2500, I figured shipping was too much so went out and towed it back.

I can't remember the web site that directed me to the shipper, it was yachtworld or something similar. Good Luck

I just was quoted $1.00 per mile to ship a new boat from NC to CT. Not only did I not authorize the shipping, I did not buy the 2004 Hydra Sports but kept my '88 Steplift and threw some money into her instead !!

I went and picked the boat up over the 4th. All went well, between work and family it has not hit the water yet, but soon!
