OK, I'm really gettin into my v20 and its goin great... It's really the first outboard ive owned. Was a I/O guy and never goin back.. So here's my question... I've got a 1993 200 Johnson, what 2 cycle oil and gas grade are you guys using. Citgo 2 cycle for $4.99 a gal. and prem. gas or quick silver merc. or yamma oil for $12.99 per gal. and reg. gas. I havent seen a post on grade of gas and quailty of 2 cycle oil that everyone is using. Thanks

Well most motors run on 87 octane, They will run worse on higher octane so go with what the Manufacture says to use.
As for the oil I use the cheaper stuff, Like Penzoil, as long as it has TCW3 in it, it will be fine!!
But if the motor is new and under warranty then use the Manufacture.
Just my 2 cents worth! I am sure there will be many different opinions.

Thanks, with the prices of gas, reg-mid-hi and the choices in 2 cycle it all adds up. good to know reg gas and 2 cycle with aleast TCW3.

I've heard the same thing, that running hi-test in your outboard yields no performance gain. Maybe something to do with compression ratios. Anyway, I've always run Pennzoil. It's a blend of synthetic and dino-juice, TCW3 of course. It's not the cheapest, but only a few dollars more than the really cheap stuff. It's several dollars less than Yamalube, Quicksilver and the other engine-brand stuff.

Zebra, do a little research...find out what octane level Johnson recommended ...my bet is it's 87, but check into it...
Pennzoil 2 cycle is as good as you'll ever need...no use spendin' a bunch of $$$$$ you don't have to.... ;D
Good luck w/it...be seein' ya on the board...

Higher octane gas just adds more anti knock compounds and other stuff for 4 cycle engines. 87 octane has the highest explosive rating so... higher octane does diddly for 2 cycle engines. SO use 87 octane and the the cheapest oil you can et with TCW3 for lubrication

any TCW3 if it is a used motor, and any 87 octane
