I'm looking at my first V20 :-/. I read some comments on 225HP being too much. Can anyone tell me with an '88 year Evenrude is it rated at the prop or P/H?
Any idea on cruise fuel consumption?
Appreciate any input! 8)

Prop.
225 is not too much . . . unless your transom is on its way out.
The difference in speed b/w a 200 and 225 is about 2mph.
Your engine only weighs 450.

aristocat...bigshrimpin mention the transom...good field test for it's structural integrity is to slowly apply your weight to the foot of the motor w/ motor tilted UP(no transom-saver in place)...this "levers" a great deal of pressure against the transom and will produce several reactions...owner may FREAK-OUT in which case transom may be weak, you might hear no noise from transom or owner indicating transom is strong or... motor, along w/ chunks of transom may fall to the ground indicating boat has failed the field test...
Let us know how it goes...pictures either way... :)...
What year hull?...'88, also?...
