Looking at 1989 150hp Johnson with a fairly new rebuild for $1,250.00. Will this motor be sufficient to push a 1973 V20? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Many of the guys on here run 150's on their 20's and love them.

Thanks for the help. Will be going down to check the motor out this weekend before he removes it from the boat.

I think it would be a great match. I'm running a 140 hp and I'm pleased, so 10 more ponies will be even better.

good luck.

Axe, I've had two different 150s on my '74 and both are/were great performers...you should expect to cruise around 30 mph and top out at 40 or so, depending on conditions, top, load, etc...suggest you use a large diameter prop (15'' to 15 1/4'') w/17 pitch...good luck w/it... ;D...

Oh yeah, if that '89 Johnny you're lookin' at still has the VRO (auto-oiler) hooked up, jmho, DISCONNECT IT and start pre-mixin' your oil/gas...sounds painful, I know, but less pain than blowin' a power-head due to VRO failure, which they have a history of doin'...Accu-Mix bottle $3.99 makes mixin' a breeze ;)...

CHECK the compression on that (or any used) motor B4 you buy it...

My dad bought a 1984 16' glastron with a 1984 evinrude that had the VRO. It did not last two long until the diapragm (spelling) pump went out and it needed to be rebuilt. That motor is still running today w/o the oil injection.
