Fuel management systems

Anyone using Navman or Floscan fuel management systems?

Are they accurate and worth it?

I dont have one and probably wont on the 18...its just not worth it. I was plannin one on the 20 though.

I do have a buddy with Flowscan on a BIG Contender and its NICE! Especially when running 2/250s you can monitor exactly where the boat is running most efficient...speed vs fuel consumption.

I say they are well worth it and will probably pay for themselves over time and the peace of mind is nice too. I really feel that most of us try to run our boats at the most efficient speed, but we truely dont know. We may be burning more fuel running 28 instead of 30...know what I mean?

They are really affordable now and if you have the newer Lowarance electronics it is compatible. You floscan shows right up on the screen. 8)

I've got the Navman plotter and run the fuel transducer as well. Even on the 18 it would save Stinky some money. I use it mostly to remind myself not to run too fast. It saves me money becasue it keeps my hand off the throttle. On the V-20 I can add .3 - .4 MPG just by keeping the boat trimmed up pretty high. Im my case its also my fuel gauge adn so far has been very accurate.

You are right AS...maybe one day, but other things have to come first. I do run offshore a good bit, I am sure it would help. :)

Tin - They're totally worth it . . . I took out my regular fuel gauge and replaced it with the navman f2100. You know exactly how much you're burning and how much fuel you have left. When you make long trips this information is essential. Out of the box the Navman is gauranteed to be within 5% and you can calibrate it too, if it's not 100% accurate out of the box.

The f2100 specs say it's for CARBURETED 2 or 4 stroke engines. Will it not work on an EFI???

Tin, I figure it will work on an EFI, but not DFI. The DFI and some 4 stokes pull such a small flow at idle that the gauge won't work. I'm sure new sensors will become available for lower readings. On my boat I've got the 5500 chartplotter that has the fuel monitor built in. Works great, and is a good plotter as well.

NC please tell us more of your entended setup. I just bought a Lowrance 339c Combo unit with no intention of adding a fuel moniter. You've got my interest. Bill Mc ;D

I am going to use it soley as a fuel management system (fuel flow, fuel remaining, fuel used) similar to NAVMAN F2100 only a few more features. I would have to have it networked to Lowrance GPS to get MPG so I will deal without that for now. At present I already have separate GPS and Sonar so no need to replace when they work fine. I'll post some pics and performance once installed.
