well the 5.0 is a fuel injection motor the 5.7 is carbed. but the 5.0 is a Ford i think ??? I'd want fuel injection but not a Ford.

I thought Mercruiser 5.0L were 305 c.i.d. Chebby motors, mine is.

some are but look at that one has distributor on the wrong end to be a chevy. But could be a file pic. call and ask them which one it is? The thing is most likely the 5.7 will be a 4 bolt main and that 5.0 will not be.

For shipping someone has to be close enough to pick it up and ship it for you.

Not to be stubborn or anything like that, but it looks like the spark plug wires are coming from the back to me. They are blue in the pic. There is so much stuff mounted to that thing that you can't see a distributor.

the 350 chevy will get better economy than the 305. no matter the horsepower (within reason).

A Chevy 350 is not 350 hp!! Its more like 220hp and you would be just fine!!

There is a couple here that have 350's in thwm and they like them!

That was a nice looking motor for 10 years!!! $863 was a great deal if all else checked out!!

An off the shelf 5.7 is rated 260 hp. Add some hi-lift roller cams and a couple other goodies and your 330 or better. :P

Yeah i agree that was a darn nice looking motor for the money especially. I'd jumped on it for the price if i needed an I/O. Heck if i had needed risers i'd jumped on it that sucker looked great.

just outta curiosity, what kinda milage would you get outta a 350 powered V20?

I know the two stroke V6 outboard powered boats are getting 3ish *so would an inboard be better or worse?

Skools Out

should be better and I/O are 4 stroke, you'd have to compare 4 stroke outboard to one.

mialage is not a concern of mine go gattta buy fuel there is no way around it but i always use 93 octane do i need to or is 87 or 89 enough. the two stroke outboars on my big boat average about 2.5 when cruzen at 30 knots. but when i am at WOT and doin about 50 knots there drinking about 55 gallons per hour.

I have a 1976 Trojan F-25. It had a Crusader 350 in it. I then dropped a 305 with a higher reduction in it just for kicks. I was not happy. Its an old and heavy boat. I then bought a MerCruiser 454 CID 360 HP and dropped it in. A real tight fit. But I bought it for $800.00 with only 150 hrs on it. I did a compression check and it read right around 140 psi. A big block is a low compression engie anyways. Now you talk about squirrely, if it was not for my trim tabs, I would be in dire straights. She fast but thristy. No a do have a Rochester 4-barrel on the engine. Very small primarys but monster secondaries. As long as I keep those closed, I get about the same milage as the 305 and 350. Torque moves mass....Dirk
