Well, guys I made it back just a little while ago from my "hunting" trip.
I use the word "hunting" loosely here because the weekend contained very little of it.

My good buddy and childhood friend picked me up on Friday evening and we headed North. He has property on the famed "blackbelt" in Alabama and they have killed many trophys there over the years. Every since he went off to college and I started a family we really have not seen much of each other let alone hunted together. It had been 8 years since I hunted his and his father's place and I was really excited. They have killed some really nice deer there over the years. I killed my first deer there over 12 years ago and I guess it has always held a special place in my heart for that reason. His camp always had that wonderful hunting camp "feel" to it as well. The feeling of good friends, good times, and commraderie no other experience affords. I always enjoyed that immensely the few times I got to experience it growing up as my father never really hunted. We chatted and done our best to catch up on our way up to the camp. It was really good spending time with him and seeing how much in just a few years our lives have changed.

I set my cell phone alarm to wake us bright and early Saturday morning but due to the bad coverage it went into analog mode overnight and ran the battery dead. This resulted in our oversleeping severely sat. morning. ::) I thought well that blows, but one hunt aint gonna kill us because we have 2 left. Our plan was to hunt till Sunday morning and head on back after that. We helped a friend of his set up a shooting house during the day and headed off to hunt about 2pm Sat. While riding up the road to the hunting property I noticed my stomach didnt feel so good. :( I had decided I would'nt let it get in the way though as I brought plenty of "emergency wipes". He droped me off for my 1/4 mile or so walk to the ladder stand overlooking a beautiful green food plot. I began my walk and about 300yards into it I realized that the situation with my stomach had gone from a concern to something that must be dealt with. I layed my gear down and handled buisness. Now I dont want to get all graphic here, but lets just say things were not "normal". :o I was feeling pretty rough but thought I could still hunt. I made my way to the field and climbed in my stand. I got settled in and shortly started feeling very sick. I broke out into cold sweats and my stomach continually cramped up. About 30 minutes into the hunt I decided I had better make my way back to the road and handle buisness again as well as the fact that I felt I was going to vomit. I got down and made it about thirty yards and hurled my guts out all over the food plot. Since I had watery eyes and could not see well while on my hands and knees vomitting I stuck my right hand in a fire ant bed. >:( I then attempted to cover the puke pile up with dirt. Taking into consideration the wind direction and the way the deer SHOULD come from I was still determined to try and hunt. I made my way back down the road and handle buisness again. On my way up the road I spooked a really nice doe that was 50 yards from the food plot headed straight towards me. :-[ I then went back to the stand and managed to see two more does that smelled the enormouse puke pile before entering the field and blew me, then ran away. The rest of the night basically consisted of me tossing and turning from cramps and shaking from a fever. I, of course didnt feel like hunting this moring so we made our way back about noon. Since I know we all love pictures and I didnt have anythng worth taking pictures of I shot a few of some of the deer they have killed up there over the years. These are just a couple as most of the bigger ones are at his home in Mobile.

Went twice this weekend (Fri/Sat), saw 9 total, jump'd one buck, and the rest were does, ,, guess the rut's not in full swing just yet for us here in some parts. First rut kicked off 3 weeks ago, things have slowed. Weather's been beautifull.. so good, I zonk'd out for 3 hours in the stand saturday. ::)
