Ok guys this is my report for opening weekend. It was type for my local fishing club in which my buddy I went hunting with this past weekend is also in. For the sake of yall not knowing my hunting buddy's screenname it is "Pot Licker" his 15 y.o. son that is reffered to in here is Daniel or "Jr."

First of all let me say: WAR EAGLE!!!!!

WOW, what a weekend of hunting!! I left out of Mobile around 9:30 pm Friday evening headed for Auburn. I rolled into town and pulled up at my place to meet Pot Licker about 1:30 am. I attempted to catch a nap to refresh me a little for the morning hunt. I napped as much as I could, but due to both my excitement and the fact that I was in my truck it didn’t work too well. Oh well, I can sleep when I’m dead! Pot Licker pulled up in the wee hours sometime and we headed over to the property about 7 miles or so away. I noticed he was missing something..his son. :o After further investigation I found out he had left Jr. in North Georgia at home due to his reluctance to get up. He said he received a phone call about 40 miles into the trip begging his return but he wasn’t gonna go back, he needed to teach him a lesson. That’s hardcore right there! ;D We made it to the land and got dressed for our hunt. NOTE: I have discovered that Pot licker is a man much like me in that he has to dump many times before any hunting takes place. I can respect that. 8)

We made it to the area I was to hunt and he left me. I made my way with my climber to the tree. After getting settled in I watched an absolutely gorgeous cold morning sunrise. I also saw a couple of Golden Eagles flying around overhead. A sign of things to come??? We shall see.

I made my way down at about 8am as I had the sun directly in my face and was being blinded. I also had a “feeling” I needed to make my way back up the road. I noticed I had the wind in my face and this would be a great opportunity to catch a deer crossing the road or a clear cut on my way back. I started the walk back. I made frequent stops and watched for several minutes at a time as I made my way back. As I rounded a corner and was headed down the road towards a creek bottom I saw a nice doe heading up the road towards me. I took a knee and pulled my rifle around. She seen me and turned to head into the woods, but it was too late. The Leupold crosshairs had already met their intended destination and a squeeze of the trigger closed the deal. She went down and another shot finished her off. I went to the truck and came back for her.

I met up with Pot Licker some time later and learned he had seen several deer. I cleaned my deer and we made our way off to do some work around the property. We rounded a corner for me to hear Pot Licker say oh $#!@! I thought he seen a big buck but it was a poacher hanging in a tree on our side of the property line. He made the fellow identify himself and we quickly established he had no right to be there. Pot Licker made him unload and climb down. It turned out to be a young guy about 15 and his father was hunting a couple hundred yards away on the correct side of the fence. He radioed his dad and he headed our way. Pot Licker had a STERN, but overall anger controlled talk with him while his dad came down. We talked with his dad and after a lot of chat about laws, property lines and so forth Pot Licker let them go with a warning and a promise this wouldn’t happen again. The boy claimed to have not really realized what he had done and his father assured us it wouldn’t happen again. The boy seemed a few fries short of a happy meal so…..whatever. ::)

We moved on to finish a few chores and then ran to get a bite to eat before the evening hunt. We chatted as usual about a lot and I heard the phrase “I miss my boy, I shouldn’t have left him” ALOT. ::)

I received a quick tour guide of Auburn and some of the University Owned land that they do their research on. As always I was very impressed with Pot Licker’s knowledge of the area around us and its history as well. I saw a Clydesdale horse in person for the first time and wow they are beasts! :oI kind of want to take one with my bow. ;D

We finished up our fast paced tour and headed back to the hunting land to check out my stand for the afternoon. On our way down the road a doe ran across in front of us and I got Pot Licker’s Muzzleloader out for what may run across next. A yearling did and stopped broadside in the road. While we discussed whether or not to shoot her she just stood there. We decided to shoot AT her so I did. As dirt blew up behind her it appeared that I was only about 2’ high. :embarrassed: Surely it must have been the scope. We will see later. ;D

We made our way to the stand I was to hunt that evening and there was a nice doe in the field. This excited me for the PM hunt as I wanted to wait for a nice buck, but I was excited at the thought of getting to watch deer. I was dropped off at my truck and Pot Licker headed to watch the game via TV. He was not going to hunt and had plans after the game to go meet his wife halfway and pickup Jr. so he could hunt Sunday. ;D

INSERT -“I miss my Boy phrase here” ;D

I got my gear together and made it to the stand about 2pm. I listened to the game on my headphones and watched a spike and a few does feed. I also enjoyed watching four small bucks spar back and forth later in the evening. I also saw five turkeys, one of which was a nice longbeard. I got to tell you guys, I feel like I had the best seat in the house for the game. As I heard on my radio that Auburn scored it was quickly reaffirmed by the boom of fireworks off to the West. All the while watching deer feed and fight. Life is good. 8)

At this point things get a little fuzzy:
Dark has snuck up on me and one of the four bucks I seen for the last 30 minutes suddenly appears larger than he did before. These deer are about 120-140 yards away and all I have looked at them with was my cheapo binoculars. (I am getting some good ones THIS week!!) I then put my scope up to take a better look and I swear I saw at least a 6 pointer outside the ears and a possible third main beam.  As he walked towards the woods headed out I had to make a decision fast. Before my brain had the chance my finger made it for me. He went down, then got up and ran in the woods. I went back for the ATV as I had no help and was a long way back in the woods. I made it back and was pleasantly surprised to find he had only made it to the edge of the field. I was NOT excited about his rack though. I guess he grew in my mind into what I wanted him to be. Note to self…the white pills are NOT multivitamins. ::) Oh well, no big deal as Pot Licker told me to shoot anything I wanted to due to them loosing and subdividing this land possibly as early as next year. I love deer meat and he was a good 120 or 130 lbs so I can dig it!! 8)

I gutted him out and let him hang for the night. I made it back to Pot Lickers House in Auburn for a shower and a good night’s sleep for tomorrow’s hunt.

Pot Licker left to go get his “boy he missed so much” so when I got back he was gone. I ate and hit the sack. I remember them asking me some questions, but not the specifics when they came in. I do know that when I woke up the pinks panties I had in my bag were gone and Pot Licker had an unusually large grin on his face. Whatever that means… ::)

We woke up a few minutes late Sunday morning and hurried to get ready. Well, Pot Licker and I hurried Jr. however, was not overly motivated. Pot Licker yelled repeatedly “Daniel, GET DRESSED!”…..Daniel, GET DRESSED!” All the while Jr. is just looking at me grinning and snickering because he loves to aggravate his dad. I laughed so hard…they are a hoot! ;D

Jr. also stopped to check last night's final football scores several times in the midst of the yelling. I got to say for a young man he really has a good grip on keeping his cool in a "heated" situation. ;D

“Daniel, GET DRESSED……….DANIEL GEAT DRESSED!!!!”

There was a lot more yelling, cursing and threats to leave before we made it out the door. I also heard lots of talk about..”OH IF IT WERE TURKEY SEASON YOUR @$$ WOULD GET LEFT HERE !!!”

I made it to a climber that Pot Licker and I had put up the afternoon before overlooking a pretty but somewhat thick hardwood bottom. I sat until about 7:30 and I seen a deer coming between some trees….then I seen his rack. :o He was NICE!! He stepped behind two trees and I readied my rifle. He evidently heard something and turned to leave…he didn’t run, but walked fast. I found his side and pulled the trigger. He ran off. I waited a few minutes and got down to look for blood. I felt as though the bullet hadn’t met its mark due to the thickness of this bottom. I WISH I had brought a slug gun for this particular hunt. I searched and searched, but found no blood. I missed or more than likely hit a tree, limb, or vine of some kind. I can still see the rack running off through that hardwood bottom. It is etched in my brain forever!!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/bbingsuperman/Avatars/banghead1.gif

I went back to the truck and spooked a couple does on the way out. I really didn’t care to shoot one as I was in the mood for antlers. I cleaned my 4 pointer from the night before that I left hanging . Pot Licker came up and I told him of my encounter. He was pissed I had educated his big buck. “ h@!!, I would rather him be dead than educated!”….sorry man, I said….I’m a good teacher. ;D

We did a few more chores and I headed south. I had probably my best hunting trip ever. I killed two and seen a lot more.
oh, yeah..one more thing......

Negative CB, she is pissed off about her good panties disappearing into the boat, my truck or elsewhere. I now have been served notice I am to buy my own women's undergarments. ::)
