No, not Blues Clues....Blue Runner

I've been hunting 10 or 12 times this season and seen very little in the deer category.

Well, yesterday evening I slipped out to the woods and hunted with my dad (separate stands of course). Anyway, around 10 after 5 pm this black blob walks up. I'm thinkin, what's a bear doing in these parts? Hmmm, so I keep lookin and its a wild hog! Wow, I didn't think they made it to these parts either! Never even heard of one in my county! Gonna make some fine eats! Just need to get a deer to add to it ;-)

Only 100 to 200 are killed in NC per year!

So, with my trusty 30 ought 6 I zeroed in on his neck and layed him down. He was around 80 pounds or so. Still a juvenile. Probably no more than 6 months to a year old.

Here is some pix:

Thanks! I've heard they were good eating too. We shall see. Like I said, now I just need some deer to go with it!

I told my dad, ya know how we always try to make deer meat taste like pork bbq? Well, we don't have to do that any more!

I put the neck shot on him in order to save those front shoulders ;D

Blue my friend hunted them years ago in California with his handgun, got treed by a big boar. Later the same day found the same group and put a round in its shoulder, penetrated into vitals, rolled him over and do you know what that bruiser did, came right back at him. Collapsed about 20 feet in front of him.
He said he smoked a roast or some other cut, can't remember for sure. Said it was the best eating he ever got out of the woods.
I lost contact with him a few years ago when I closed my archery shop, always wanted to go join him on that hunt.

Very nice!!! That is a good eating size right there! Those biguns suck! They can be tough. The best eats are the lil uns about 30lbs. If you can puck em up by the tail like a rabbit they are perfect!! ;D

Good job!!
