Any of you boys know anything about pontoon boats? I am thinking of adding a pontoon boat to my armada for putting up the intercoastal when the wifies aincent relatives come by for sunday dinner and for sea duck hunting. I see them go by my house quite a bit but I dont know anyone who has one. Do you need a special kind of aluminum for salt water? If I keep it in the water do I need to bottom paint it or is it easier to scrape off the bottom crap than a glass boat? I was thinking that a 50 or 60 HP would be plenty for a 24 footer..It would also be a nice night fishing platform for sitting on some of my puppy drum and trout holes....Frank.

Skools: thanks much but I promised the little wifie that the v20 was my last project boat but that sounds like a good deal. I was just curious as to how they hold up etc. I did find out from a guy I stopped this morning at my dock who has one that you cant leave them in the water for more than 3 days before shi% starts growing on them here on the intercoastal so I have to look at getting a lift first or put it in and out after a few days ..I will probably try to find something turn key..Many thanks Frank

I know a guy who enjoyed his 24'er on Lake Hartwell for several years...took it to Murrel's Inlet (saltwater) for a weekend...he said ''WORST'' thing he ever did....
...although I believe some pontoons are better suited for SW than others...I think Starcraft makes one (larger "logs") specificly for SW...get a little more HP (75-90)...when the wind kicks up, they need a lil' more ;) 8) ...

Skools: I may be interested after all. Seems like most people under power them at least the ones I've been searching on the net. I would go with a much bigger motor than most people put on them and I have access to some used two strokes that people have traded in for 4 strokes through a dealer friend of mine.. A 24 is about what I want and if its in good shape otherwise I might come out and look at it. I have a storage lot to work on it so wifie wont have to look at it sitting in the drive way. Is it in Emerald isle and do you know what make it is ? Thanks again, Frank

I've got a 20ft Sweetwater, recently put on a 2005 40 yamaha 4stroke. I thought i would get rid of it, you know how many boats can you be on at one time. But the wifey is happy with it and the 4 stroke i dont even hear it. I put on a new top with side, front and rear curtains and ive stayed on it all night swingin on the hook, off the channel. So i guess its in my fleet now. I did take the My Sweetwater and Top Notch to the intercostal with neighbors kids and all and had a grand time. I keep the pontoon on a trailer so cant help with keeping it in the water. I get around 17 18 mph with the 40 and thats fine for a pontoon. 20 ft alittle small at times but its what i went with, 24 ft pontoon is a barge out there.
