My last living grandfather had really been fighting for his life over the past year or so. His case of Alzheimer's has progressively gotten worse. This man has always been a patriot. He fought in Korea and retired from the millitary afterwards. He served at the VFW every moment he could up untill his sickness took over too badly. I got the call at 2am this morning that he had passed on........

Anytime I think of a holiday that is centered around America or our soldiers he is always the first person I think of. His home is littered with flags and pictures of political meetings. He even met Regan and had pictures of it. The red, white, and blue is all he stood for. *I know he couldnt stand to go on America's birthday and therefore waited till early this morning.

No fishing with him except a couple times when I was younger. Getting married and me being "busy" all the time kept us apart alot. I should have taken more time to spend with him. Its something I definitely regret. ???

Sorry for the loss Stink, My dad is 84 tomorrow, retired after 30 years in the nave, served in the pacific during WWII, he has alzheimers and I see him declining slowly over time. He also has a leaking heart valve and is on several medications. My dad lives with me, we built him his own little wing on the new house. I get nervous on those mornings when he sleeps late, and when I get a call from home I always get a twinge. My thoughts are with you. I know it's little consulation, but he is through with his suffering and on to a better place.

I wish you and your dad well. Shake his hand for me and tell him I said thanks for my freedom. There are too few real men left out there like him. ;)

Stinky Hooker , I'm very sorry about you loss . It sounds like your grandfather was a fine man . Our country is lucky to have had so many like him . I went to an Independence Day event yesterday where my wife's dad was honered along with a few others for his service in Korea . While there were a number of WWII guy's this year we were missing one of my town's ( likely the States ) WWI vets . He died last year @ 104 years old . He had attended up until last year .
My thoughts are with you and your family .

Stinky my condolences bud, and a sharp salute to your Gramps.
My father was a world war 2 vet also, I lost him just before I turned 17. I sympathize with what your saying about the time lost and the regrets. I have quite a few about that.
It's something that I try to get across to all my family and friends. Mike and the Mechanics "In the living Years" crushes me every time I hear it.
The good thing Stink is he is with men of honor now he served with and I guarentee you it is one very happy reunion.
God Bless him ;)

Same hear Stink, very sorry for your loss, It is because of patriots like your grandfather that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have today.

My dad will be 82 in November, he was also in the south Pacific in WWII.
