I cannot vouch for its authenticity. It came to me in an email from a friend in Minnesota (multiple forwards), with this text:

"This buck was a truck kill near Alma, WI. DNR said that high protein, specifically corn was the cause of the abnormal feet. The deer is currently sitting in the Alma bait shop freezer."

How much corn did he eat???
