It'll kick you in the a$$ even when you're down. >:( Well, I've refrained from telling all but a select few. But this morning I kind of reached my breaking point and you guys are like family, so here goes.
I was recently diagnosed with Stage I Adult Hodgekins Lymphoma. Depressing as that sounds, Stage I is in it's most curable state. So, the doctors prognosis for successful treatment is good. I've already begun chemotherapy (which really sucks. A LOT!). I actually went through this before and was given a clean bill of health about 10 years ago or so. Recently, I discovered some skin leesions and had not been feeling all that great. I had the skin cancer taken care of, then given my past medical history, my doctor did a new full workup of tests which has lead me to this point.
This on top of my wife having some major medical issues earlier this year as well have really drained me. She had to have a kidney removed because of a tumor. The doctors felt that the best course of action, instead of wondering if the complete tumor had been removed or not, would be to extract the whole kidney.
There have been many more personal events this year that have lead me to this breaking point. And.........I haven't even gotten to the real point of my rant here.
So. Here is my real reason for being pissed off today. I'm scheduled to be at the hospital for 10 AM for another round of chemo. I decided to throw some fishing equipment in the truck and head out early to hit a few spots for some surfcasting near by. Still some Stripers around, although they seem to be exiting fast. I stop to run into the local Dunkin Donuts for a coffee. I'm not in there two minutes. I come out to find my rods stolen out of the back of my truck >:( WTF is wrong with people? I reported it to the local PD but don't hold much hope in ever retrieving any of it. In two minutes time, I lost probably $400-$500 worth of gear that some crackhead will sell for a couple of dime bags. I'll keep an eye out on craigslist and a few other sources. But this really blows!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for listening guys. :-[

Wow thats pretty bad!
Years ago back when I did a little deer hunting I had an old GMC pickup with one of the old gun racks in the back window. You all remember them right? Well anyway, I was coming back from Deer hunting and stoped at the local grocery store to pick up a loaf of bread per my wifes request. I Locked the truck and was in the store about 5 minutes. Came out and my right side window was busted and my 270 Remington BDL was gone............ I know it was foolish to leave the gun in plain sight but I live in a rural area and crime isnt too bad, but they got me that day.. My grandfather had given me that gun as a graduation present.
Again sorry for your loss..

Thanks. I've got other rods and reels for sure. But one of them was one of my favorite surfcasting setups. And I just can't afford to replace any of it right now. Oh well. It's done :-/

CB I do a bit of surf fishing here on the barrier islands of Va. Mostly for red drum. What kind of set ups do you favor? Im guessing stripers are your primary target by the looks of those lures..?
I only have 4 or 5 surf rods, I have 2 Diawa sealine X 11 ft. rods that I have Abu 6500's on 3 Pinnacle shore line classics 11 ft. w/ Abu "blue yonders" (these rods can throw some serious weight), and one old 10 ft. Fenwick that was a spinner but I had the guides replaced with conventional guides and put an abu 6500 on it as well. I use mostly 50lb. yellow power pro on all my set ups..
You?
chumbucket
10-27-2006, 01:13 AM
Stripers and Bluefish are the main target from shore up here. One of the stolen setups was a 10' 6" St. Croix Ben Doerr with an ABU 7000 CS Pro Rocket that was loaded with 50lb Cortland Spectron. Another setup is a Diawa Sealine X Spinner with a Shimano Spheros reel loaded with 50lb Power Pro. I did have a couple of custom rods, but sold because I really don't surfcast all that much. The St. Croix got used most of the time.

i HATE a thief. no lower scum on the planet. few years back me and a coworker stopped in gautier for lunch and dave noticed some dude hawkin around the back of the truck. i took off outside and when i came round the corner he was snatchin rods out the back of the truck (yeah, we were workin hard that day, lol). luckily, he left both my allstar/penn's and took daves $10 pawn shop special. i didnt care much. i chased that dude across 6 lanes of hwy 90 lunch hour traffic, (grabbed my kblade out the back of the truck as i took out after the prick) over 2 fences, down the tracks, through the woods, and finaly ran out of steam in the middle of the projects. i woulda had him cept i was wearing steel toe combat boots. but, alass, you aint catchin no crack head!
dave later told me i was stupid to chase that dude like that over a $10 fishing pole. dude coulda had a gun or any number of things coulda happened. he said it just aint worth it. well, 1) thier were principals involved. you steal from me i'm gonna get ya. it's that simple. down here, we catch a thief, we beat 'em till the white meat shows! 2) and this brings me to my next point. aint none of us gonna live for ever! we dont like to think about it but, it's true. we all gonna die. sry to hear bout ur health. the truth is you may beat the cancer, get healthy, and get hit by a bus. my advice to anyone is stay right with the lord. and enjoy life as best you can. believe me, i know all about hard times. but, honestly, what can ya do? tomorow aint promised to any of us. go fishing, handle ur buisness. and tell ur wife you love her. just dont fear death! it comes for us all.

Sorry to hear about you lose of fishing rods but even more so about your health problems.
Hang in there big guy, it'll get better.
Years ago my wife told me to buy my own birthday gift, so I went out and got a barely used Poulan Pro 375 with a 20" bar. I paid $175.00 for it and it ran like a champ, used it 3 times and could not choke it down. :D
We had just moved from our trailer into our new house I just built behind the trailer, we sold the trailer and they paid someone to move it for them. I was working around the house that day and left my shop unlocked, where I kept the saw. Two days later I go to get my saw to cut down a tree only to find it missing. >:(
Thinking back the the saw was there a week earlier and this was the only time I opened the shop since then, I realized who must have had it. Not having the serial numbers or actualy seeing them take it, I had to right it off as a lesson learned. What a kick in the nads that was. :o
Look on the bright side, you won't be fishing much so now you can post more. ;D
Keep us updated.

Hang in there CB, health problems are becoming more and more curable.
It is amazing, just 5 - 10 years ago, things that would have done you in
are now being cured.
Just as bad as being stole from, are the people that think your
truck bed is their trash can.
Or, I was just checking the heat in my apartment building last night,
had to bleed the radiators, one set of tennants are excellent,
the other are just destroying their apartment.
That is like stealing, cause when they move out,
I will have to spend more than the security deposit
to bring it back to decent shape.

All right just got home, not to many grouse, had a couple of shots. Spent two days walking either straight up or straight down trying to get my friends 16 year old son some grouse, he got five shots but missed all. They are wily and fast, dogs did good, my knees held up (thank God) and the country was beautiful.
And now the good news, I'm invited on a fishing adventure to Sebastian Fla. with the boys. ;D Give me a date, I'm in ;)
Hey CB, came home today and your XMAS gift is sitting here, came by fed ex. He He He ;D
Like we talked about before, your coming thru this and anything else thrown your way, because you have to many fish to catch and to much life to enjoy.
Besides, anyone who has suffered the slings and arrows of the Master Wind Talker all these years has earned credits with the Big Man ;D

CB,
I've been away for a while, but wanted you to know that I'll be praying for you and I'll have our prayer group praying for you too (we meet on Thurs. evenings).
Racer is right on the money with his comments. Nobody likes to think about it and we do our best to act like it isn't a reality. Truth is, we all live each day believing that we will never die, but then one day we're faced with reality...
None of us are good enough to be worthy of Heaven, so it's not a merit game. I was kidding around in a previous post when I said it's not who you know; It's WHO you know, but it's true. I can only hope and pray that you know who I'm talking about and that you will find peace and comfort for your soul as you go through this difficult time in your life. Regardless of where we are in life, we do well to live each day enjoying the life that has been given to us and seeking to glorify the Lord in it.
As for the loss of your poles, I hope the person who took them has trouble sleeping at night and can only hope that the person comes to saving faith and repents before meeting the Judge of all creation. That person may think that they're in the clear because you didn't cathch them, but the fact is somebody saw the whole thing go down and He won't be fooled into rendering a false verdict.
Enough preaching for now ;) I pray that the Lord would be pleased to heal you and that your chemo won't be too draining on you. Hang in there buddy.
chumbucket
11-02-2006, 03:41 AM
Thanks for the kind words Steve. I was pretty mad about the gear being stolen, but I've gotten over that. I know that material things can be replaced and I truley believe that the person that took my stuff will get what's coming to him one day.
I had another treatment today. So far they're going fairly okay. Kind of knocks me down for a little bit afterwards. Now I'm up partially due to the fact that I work nights and I slept most of the day today. I'm going to be taking a little time off from work to take care of things. Thiings will be tight financially for a little while, but we'll do okay.
It certainly helps to have family and good friends, and even though this is just an internet community, I consider you guys as an extended family.
willy
11-02-2006, 11:39 AM
You will come thru it brother, you will feel weak and ****ty from the treatments but you will come thru.
