My uncle had a 1988 Bayliner Trophy either 16 or 17ft with an 85 Force on it. I caught many a black sea bass in that little boat. And it always broke down before you left the dock so you never got stranded.

Joke all you want but the older Bayliners where not that bad. My father baught brand new a 1983 19' cudy with a volvo I/O AQ125. That boat took a pounding for around ten years before we/he had any trouble with the boat and that was the engine from neglect not the hull. It sat in the water from the spring to fall as he had no trailer and had to get it pulled. That was the biggest party boat for me and my friends and it took all the abuse we had. We have had that boat 6 to 8 foot out of the water jumping tug boat waves, had it packed with 16 people, skied all day, put a ton of hours on the boat and it just keep on going. We could put 15 gallons in that boat and we would run out of gas before it did. Out of all of my boating years I'll have to say that those 10 years where some of the best boating I have ever had. The cabin was a bonus on those nights I had a date. We lived about 15min from Norfolk Va. and waterside which is a water front building that was filled with resterants and bars. They had concerts outside on the weekends and I think the boat even got excited when Friday evening rolled around. I'd come home from work on Fridays and there would be 4 to 6 people on the pier with beer in hand ready to get the weekend going. Not to mention the Harborfest that boat went through which was a weekend festival on the water. Then there was Portside across the river which had things going most of the time and we could crews to all by boat (The River Rat Bayliner) .It was called the river rat because it was always going up and down the river at all times days and nights. I could go on and on but I'll never have anything bad to say about a Bayliner because the one we owned was nothing but great memories.

There are always exceptions to the rule!! They can't be all bad!

I think most boats got crapy in the last 10years when they started using less glass and more composits.

Most older hulls were built to take a torpedo!

yeah a bayliner is good for:

sinking as reefs

using as a doner for another boat as in
1) motor
2) outdrive
3) trailer
4) steering
5) controls
6) bracket
7) outdoard

good for repair shops

please someone else continue ;D
