great Pics. Lumber of the bathroom plunning. Have a problem myself. Sink in the bathroom is backing up in the tub. And the tub is taking forever to drain. Have a concrete slab. Drano just isnt doing it. Hoping a snake will fit in under teh sink, but such a small drain for tub and sink. Not sure if teh snake can make the turns to find the clog. Why do I have a feeling I'll find old kids report cards or all my recent Bayliner brocures. *>:(
Didnt M.J. learn anything in grade school. Teacher always said, you cant just share with a few. If you are going to share, you must share with teh whole class room. So that means M.J. must send out v-20 stickers to all 1047 members. Cant wait to get mine M.J. Thanks. ;D

Hey Lumber, you got ridge vents going in ??
Never figured out the shakes on a plywood roof though. Started seeing that in the early 80's, instead of the 1x3's across the truss's. Figured with the plywood roof on, the shakes wouldnt breath.
Either way, Good job. ;D

lumberslinger178
03-02-2007, 01:17 AM
there is a product called cedar breather, Ive got three gable end vents Iam not a big fan of ridge vent 3 houses from the ocean ,,, with those north east winds and driving rains,,, the cedar shakes with 1x3 in the situation would have been impossible with trying to keep the place dry during construction .... house is still full of furniture carpets hardwood floors etc

lumberslinger178, beautiful work and great craftsmanship! That kind of work is hard to come by down in Miami. I’m in the construction/development business myself (GC and an Architect)– new construction only.
These are two models we are building in our small development. Very different from the construction styles up north - our influence is mostly Spanish Colonial.

And every now and then…we mess up. Either move the beam closer to the trusses or get new trusses. Well, we ended up cutting the concrete beam, doing a plan revision and placing a 4X12 wood beam on steel columns. Ouch! I keep telling my son, a young civil engineer and our project manager –
You get what you inspect – not what you expect!
I think this f…-up drove my point home.

Good Looking projects ,,,,,,, yes they are nothing like what were used too we have flood elavation issues here mostly everything is build on piling and starts 10 feet in the air....

Do you do any business with embick roofing I know there down that area I know Mark embick for many years

msbhammer
03-03-2007, 02:13 AM
Those clay roofs are a pain to walk on. Ladder cushions to walk on the roof or wrapp yourself up in bubble wrap. *;D

BuilderFL
03-03-2007, 10:23 PM
Never done business with Embick Roofing, I’ve been working with a friend, Ralph Spurlock. About them piling, they use them down in the Keys but I have never been involved in a project that had wood pilings. I do remember seeing a piling being place in sand at the beach in Gulfshores Alabama. Very interesting, they place the pole in the sand and using a pressure water hose, they displaced the sand as the piling went down. When they had it to the depth, they shut the water off and the sand compacted around the piling.

WASHING THE PILING DOWN WITH WATER IS HOW WE INSTALLED SEPTIC TANKS AT THE BEACH AT NAGS HEAD, HOOK UP TO A FIRE TRUCK (WE HAD ONE JUST FOR THIS WORK) AND TAKE THE HOSE AND START WASHING AWAY. I COULD WASH ONE IN BY MYSELF IN LESS THAN 20 MINUTES.

It's a cool method... and it works well. Sand has one of the highest compacting % of all materials. Post some pictures when you have a chance. I would like to see it done.

Wow, a diving board.

That is one high dive, but I'll bet the landing is a little rough. ;D

That is a pretty roof.

Lumber, never seen a pump jack stand like that, the way you have it secured to the roof.

Bad story, Was doing a siding jog and was pumping up on the pump jacks. I pump myself right up into the main house supply and and got fried. :'(
Now that was many moons ago. Think I was only 15 years old and just started construction, but I can still smell the skin buring on my shoulders. ;D

Great Pics. by the way. ;)
