MJ - I'm still learning . . . supposedly Spring and Fall are the best times, but there around all year. The california state Striped Bass record is 67 pounds (1992).

In general they are much smaller than the East Coast Bass . . . the legal size is 18" .

Apparently they were introduced in 1879 from NJ.

Hey guys.
We catch them all year long, but now is the time for the bigger fish...
We also catch a lot of them in the surf in the summer..
The party boats will back into the surf and hold the boat there while we fish live anchovies...can get real interesting if there is a big swell running...

Well, barbless hooks make for easy release. I don't think there is currently a limit on your take of surf caught party boats. ;D
