lefty wanted to get wet today, so off we went. We got out late today and the wind the picking up and the water was a bit choppy.
The boat ran great in the canal, but when we hit the bay, I noticed she was loosing power, then the ball would go dry and she would stall out. *:-[ ???
I'd pump the ball and she would run and then stall out again. Once she was runnung again, she ran fine up above 3500 rpms, but low rpm's, she would stall. ???

When the ball went dry did it collapse or was it dry and fully expanded ?
Depending on your answer it sounds to me like either a clogged fuel filter/line/in-line filter
or
your fuel pump is in need of a rebuild kit.
Do you have a small portable gas can to run it on? That will eliminate the fuel system outside the engine.
And for the record a pic of a beautiful woman from forty feet away with a short lens is a crime against humanity and punishable as a felony in New Jersey ;)
Forget the last paragraph the other pic just came up.

Willy, the ball was dry and fully expanded. I also have a small fuel filter just before teh ball. My repair guy hates it, saying its restricking fuel. ??? Could to much slack in the fuel line be the problem ???
Gonna chane out the fuel line, ball and filter and see what she does.
And yes, I'm aware of the crimes in New Jersy, so I stayed in De. waters. ;D

She could be losing the prime if you have a leak in the line, or you have a fuel pump taking a dump because they start sucking air instead of fuel. I have had two fuel pumps go bad and that is how they told me, they would say listen sh!thead I have not got enough umph to pull fuel at low RPM's but if you get me running hard I can pull enough to get going.
But if you have a fuel/water seperator filter have you checked it. New fuels and old tanks are sworn enemies.

This is my fuel line. Maybe it's to long ??, it's in a bad spot I figure with water lying in the splashwell and all.
Will change her out this week and see what she does.
Note the fuel filter next to the ball, do others do the same thing with having a filter. ???

That is an in line auto fuel filter and I have never seen them used on a boat before, I don't think it is a good idea for a few reasons, but if installed right and the flow is the right direction I dont think it is causing your problem.
Do you have a another fuel / water seperator ? or is that all you are running for a filter?
If it is you need to make some updates my brother because that will not cut it.

Have a inline filter as well inside the gunnel hatch. Will pull that as well and replace.
Yeah Lumber, the Pics. dont show it, but it was quite choppy in the Bay and in the Ocean. Didnt stay to long in the Ocean. Didnt wanna stall out and drift to England. ;D The ride home was ruff as well.

I agree. Never seen a setup like that. The screen on the pickup tube inside the tank and the other filter on the motor should be enough to cover any particals in the fuel. Get rid of that auto filter.

Nice pics you got there Hammer, I won't comment on which are my favorite but nice pics any way.
As to your filter, I would say from the picture that it is installed backwards. Yes it will still allow flow but the dirt would be trapped inside and you cant see it as apposed to the other way if it is trapped on the outside you will be able to see if it is full and you have more area to collect the dirt allowing longer life from the filter.
I cant say for sure but I have heard that the paper elements will start to clog with the premix oil and staryve the engine and also seperate the oil from the gas to prevent proper lubeing.

Thanks, Turbin. We were hit by a large storm here yesturday, but I plan on yanking out and installing a new ball and without that tiny filter. Also gonna blow some air through the fuel line and through the vent line to make sure I dont have any gunk built up as well. ;)

Well hello from Los Angeles, again,
this time it is a vacation.
Great pics HAMMER.
I have the glass filter withthe replaceable elements.
I can take the filter apart and clean any sediment.
Which I have to do often.
I can always tell when it is time, because the pump ball
collapses and the engine stops.
I clean the filter and then I am good to go.
Cleaning my fuel tank is one of the things on my todo list
when I get back from vacation.
Oh the glass filter is available at Wally World or WEST
or any store that sells automotive/marine/ engine supplies.
Sorry HAMMER, I don't have a pic.

Hoping to work on her this weekend. Been stuck with Place's to ge and people to see and all. Had the V running today and she ran like there was no problems, but the ball was acting up, not sucking in hardly any fuel when I was priming her. Hopefully in a day or so, I'll have her done and see if she stalls out, if so, I'm replacing the fuel pump.
I did take off the fuel filter and inspect, but looked fine to me.
Lefty is doing well on your stash Willy. Make's herself a small drink before bed. ;D She went out and bought a mixer and ice crusher. She's been playing with new mixed drinks lately. Her latest one she made on her own was called the "Pink Panty Pull Down". After a few of them, the drink seems to work. LOl. ;D ;D ;D

Hammer I had this happen with my motor when brand new. I have some junk in my fuel tank that got up around the intake sock and caused a restriction. My primer bulb would go completely flat. My symptoms were opposite of yours though - she would run at low RPM's and stall out at higher RPM's. As someone else mentioned you can eliminate the fuel pump as the culprit just by running off a 6 gallon spare tank.
Good luck man and BTW great pictures bro! ;D
