Well, I tracked down this guy today about a v20 he was getting rid of. It's a 78 V20. The transom is rotted and the floors are soft. It's for Free. The only good this I see are the windshield, sliding hatch and the trailer. Trailer comes with a title as well. Hmm, where can I hide this at If I decide to grab it. :-/ Dont actually need it, but the few parts could help out members. ;)

Waisted transom. Completely hollow.

Mulv, didnt you take a V to the dump. Have much $$did it cost you to dump it ?? ???

Mulv80
07-25-2007, 01:50 PM
Hammer when I dumped my V it was like $60. I had to remove the gas tank before dumping it. The place I took it to was in NJ, about 20 min from Philly.

If you decide to part her out I could use the cover over the gas tank to practice my fiberglassing skills.

msbhammer
07-25-2007, 02:49 PM
Mulv, looks like I might grab it. I'll pull the tank cover off for ya. Working on a deal now where I can strip it down.
Wish I had the room for it. Would be a great project learning how to redo the transom.

Where you been. Whats been going on with your V ??

Just got back to work on Thursday this week.

I suggest that everyone take a two week vacation
and drive I-70 cross country.
There is more stuff to see on that route than you can imagine.

I will be in Lewes this weekend, probably just do a little work
on the V and take measurements for projects.

When I saw free V20 as the topic, I thought maybe you
conficated mine. ;) ;) ;D ;D

So whats the preferred way to replace this type of transom. From the outside...looks easier that way..or from the inside ??? ???
Hope to have it Monday and will take a better look and decide to keep or trash/part it out.
Really dont have teh time or $$ to repair her, but I hate seeing this V go to the landfill. :'(

I could use the port side Teak sliding hatch guide :D. I just took my Renkin to the Suffolk Va land fill and it didn't cost me anything? I can't understand why a sanitary land fill would charge someone to help them out. ???After all they are trying to fill in some land.

This might be a job for a SKOOL rebuild. DOnt have the time or cash to work on it just now. It might look ok in the pics., but she needs alot of time and $$
Would love to have her match my V.
Sometime this week I'll scub her clean and hopefully decide to keep her for a while or part her out. I know a few of you guys could use the parts, so hang tight till I decide what to do with her. Hoping to get a few hundred for the trailer. Well at Least $300.00
Thought about selling my V to help towards a down payment on a house and use this new V as a new project. Just unsure what to do with it yet. Hopefully in a few days I'll know more. Just hated to see this V go to teh Landfill. :-X

Is that the one?

What happened behind the sleep inn on Sunday,
traffic was a mess heading north from Crabby Dicks?

Can soda blast it for free if I drive and pick up a load for my buddy in Denton Md.

Transom/cap comes off Wednesday. Gonna look at the transom and see if I can redo her.

My family is from MD and we have a place in Rehoboth @ colonial east. Spent a few weeks driving all over introducing the new wife to the fam and seeing the sites. She had never been to a northern boardwalk or eaten a bucket of Thrashers. Fix all that. No didn't bring the boat, thought I would be picking one up while there but, way too much work for the money. I've done some serious soul search'n and have decided to finish fixing mine up and will keep looking for a good deal on something newer. For now anyway. LOL pics to follow.

You gotta get some Thrasher fries when at the Boardwalk. ;D

Hoping on soda blasting, barrier coat, bottom paint, redo transom and fuel tank cover, then that it. Goes on the for sale block. Maybe allgrip the whole boat, but I'm gonna see if I can get a shine back in the gelcoat first.

More pics. to follow Wed. Thats if I'm not diving Wed. out on the Sub-wreck.

Hopefully by the end of the day, I will have the transom cut out and removed. Oh...what would SKOOL do. ???
Cutting out the transom from the inside along the cap.
Scared to make that first cut and say OOPS. :'(

Worked all night, finishing up a pot of coffee now to get me through the day. Grinder, circ. saw, sawzaw in hand.
Taking out the splash well any maybe a portion of the floor.

Worse thing that can happen is I screw up and just part it out. Makes for a good practise boat. ;D

Step by steps pics. t folow I hope. I just hope I dont fall asleep with a saw in my hand. :-X :P
