Getting ready

I broke down this year and have switched some of my reels with fireline to powerpro. I'm sure I'll be sorry I did. I figured I would give it another chance.

Here is some gear I have been respooling:

2 BG 20's 2 4400 SS's, 2 940's 2 Abu 6500's, Two Avet sx's, a little 4300 SS, and a Fin-nor spinner.

Have you used them Avet yet?? I am thinking about them??

Those AVETs are on my list for this year. I personally like the Fireline better than Power Pro. A lot better.

I've probably blown through a hundred bucks worth of PowerPro, so I've given it a fair shake. I like Fireline better as well, but to each his own. Fireline is temperamental out of the box, but once it gets broken in, it's superior to anything I've tried.

They seem to be price fixed at $155 to $159. Mike at M&D's is going to have some in in about a month hopefully from my conversation with him. He usually gives us a discount from the S-B site too.

I have one spinner with infinite anti reverse - Thats the Fin Nor. Its a great reel with an awesome drag but it is HEAVY.

The abu garcias are infinite anti reverse too.

Not knocking the gear. It's nice stuff. 8) My favorite way to fish is "light tackle jigging". 12lb. class outfits, high modulus rods, and superlines. The reels need to have instant anti-reverse, but that's me.

What kind of fishing, do you mostly do, f1, drifting for flounder in Barnegat Bay? Chasing stripers along the beach? Gonna' take the V20 to Barnegat Ridge and wrestle with some chopper blues? ;D

No offense taken! Its funny how sometimes words typed just dont come off right!

I fish out of Somers Point. I'll be striper fishing in the bay along with fluke and weakfish if they ever return.
I'll also run out to the artificial reefs (Ocean City, Great Egg) for big fluke, sea bass etc.

The rest of my time is spent trolling/chunking in the canyons on friends boats.

Somers Point! I print the stuff for The Clam Bar, aka Smitty's, the little shack on the circle between the Waterfront and Smith's Marina. I've been printing for them for almost ten years. It's safe to say I would've sold my half of the equipment to my business partner if not for that account being so much fun and so prolific. I've always wondered what the fishing was like around there. Neat.

I also have family friends in Brigantine, so once my girls get bigger and my wife can handle them at the beach on her own, I'll start dragging my boat along for some Jersey fishing.

Thats funny. I grab some breakfast at Smitty's once in a while. (around back).

The bay fishing there is ok. On weekends its a madhouse. I am docked about 3 miles from Smittys up the bay.
