Anybody ever had sucess getting a passport quickly? I was just invited to fish in Costa Rica early January, but don't know if I can get my paperwork together in time ??? If I can pull it off, I'll be at Los Suenos from 1/3 to 1/9... ;)

I had to get mine in a hurry about 2 years ago. It does cost more but I had mine back in less than 10 days. I know the protocol has changed a bit in the last year or so. The best bet is to ask at the post office. I know that there are now websites that specialize in this such as rushpassports.com but I don't know how reputable they are.

Go through your Congressmans Office. *They have people who's job it is to take care of such things.
My wife got hers in a week with the aid of our Honorable Congressman Howard Coble.
And it didn't cost any extra. ;)
They do it for the votes and it works, my wife has voted for him every time since then even though he is not of her party.

Looks like this dream really might come true. I'll be contacting my congressman in the morning. If all goes well I'll be in Los Suenos January 3-9 catching bills. Now, where did I leave that camera? ;D

Go online and print the form for quick passports at dept of state website.
Then get all your paperwork together and get a bogus trip itinerary that shows you leaving in a couple weeks.
Then drive to the office closest to you, after making an appointment.
The complete process can take as little as two days.
and I think there is minimal extra charges.
We have a lot of international travelers at work
and a few have had to get theirs renewed or new ones in a hurry.

If you try that now, you end up an illegal alien in Costa Rica.

Here's the modern day deal. I have to go apply for an "expidited passport, costs an extra 60 clams. It should be back in about 10 days, but if time is tight, the congressmans office can get it done immdediately, but you still have to apply thought the regular channels. My appt is 10 am tomorrow ;D Gotta get extra camera battereis while I'm out ;)
Man, I ain't gonna sleep for three weeks...

I'm sorry about not being clear Air, my wife did apply through normal means then had the Congressman's Office push it to the front of the line. Glad it is going to work out for you.
My parents just got back from Costa Rica, they have been several times and love it every time.
Nice Air, Say hello to some of the Tica Girls for me ;D

Air, get your form from the Post Office or County Clerk's office, fotos, and I think it is 165.00 (at least the last year when I renewed it was), send it as express. Follow the instructions really closely on the application and you should have it in hand in about ten days. Since you are in Virginia you will probably be sending to New Orleans, LA or Phila, PA. Look carefully at that particular issue. Good luck!
