why did you post this 3 times?? Just go to the others and hit delete this post, and stay with one.

The Bracket is fine. You need to mount the cavatation plate even with the bottom of the boat.

But there is a rule I did not follow when I did mine, for every 12" back you go, you want to raise the motor 1" i believe?

I dont know if it is an Armstrong bracket but it has same configuration as mine. On a 30" approx set back bracket you want the cavitation plate to be three inches above a line straight back (keel line) from the hull. According to Armstrong techs that is considered ideal. With a caveat added, that is some motors are much heavier than others and you might have to adjust that height up or down an inch or so to compensate or you will be dunking your motor too much. Call Armstrong and talk with their techs, nice people and will be very helpful ;)

if you get a shorter bracket, and get a V6 motor you will not have room to lift the motor up high anough.

And you want it all the way up if you are moored, and anough to get it up a ramp with out hitting!!

If its not to much to ask can I see some of brackets that you guys have out there

I believe a 30 inch setback is pretty standard and should allow room for any v6 to be fully raised.

However, I don't think the extra 3 inches is gonna hurt you. *I'd leave it alone and install it as it is...

Also pay attention to whether you have a 20 or 25 inch shaft motor. *That will make a difference in figuring everything out.

I hope to be dealing with these same questions before long...

Oh yeah, if you'd like to know more and see more do a search on the word bracket. Also go to the gallery section of the website and take a look. You'll see a good number of brackets.

There are some out there, made coustom for high end boats, they are really a extension of the boat and work well.
But the cost of a coustom glass bracket will cost more the are V20's are worth!!!!!!!!

The V21 has a glass "bracket" from the factory. If you want to call it that.

I had the steel one made and would have used it, but I found one for $400

so I decided to use the real one and sell the steel one, but it was heavy, I say 200+

A friend of mine made one modeled after the seamark bracket. It came out great!! I helped a bit with the layup and mounting. It's much less work just to buy one and bolt it on.

Is it a bolt on are is it made to the boat

That is part of the hull.

You could make something like fairly easily and bolt it to the hull, but it's cheaper to buy something like this . . .

I was told that installing a bracket will weekend the transom. Is that true or a bunch of crap ???? ???

I was told that installing a bracket will weekend the transom. Is that true or a bunch of crap ???? ???

I think it could be true depending on the condition/quality of the transom and the install of the bracket. Hanging all that weight further off the transom will definately put more stress on it. If done correctly and reinforced it should be fine.

The stainless bracket that racex has is the same bracket as I have. It weighs 130# and then a 150 outboard 390# = 520# off the back.

If done right it will last a life time!! I have had no issues with mine in the 3 seasons that I have used it!!

But my transom was good and I filled the hole solid!! And just to be sure I had a bracket made for the inside that would spread the weight across the whole transom, It is made of 1/2 X 3" flat stock with 4 coats of ZRC to help with the rust, Haven't seen any rust yet!! ;D

And I never trailer with out a transom saver!!

MJ I don't think my Armstrong aluminum bracket weighs any where near that much, I'd be surprised if it was over 65-70 lbs.
And MJ is right, if the transom is solid should be more than strong enough. Been putting them on boats for a long time now.
That is also why I think a sea drive boat is a great candidate for a bracket, original from the factory has a very small hole made for the passing thru of controls and fuel lines, very little chance for water entrance into wood, generally sealed very well from the factory and the full transom is largely intact.
